What were the other available options who wished to coach, or were involved in multiple interviews?
Rivera, Judge, Rhule, & Stefanski were all hired as new coaches.
Would any of those coaches been any improvement over McCarthy?
No.

The Jones cartel is too powerful for a 1st time NFL head coach.
I not sure a Shanahan or Vrabel could even have success in Dallas unless the Joneses completely remove themselves from football operations -- which has not been the case for the last 30 years.

At least McCarthy is a proven NFL head coach winner, & at best can confront Jerry and force concessions, if necessary.

I agree with Michael Irvin about there is no "individual isolated success" in football, or perhaps I should say there is no individual isolated success on the field. There seems to be quite a different story when it comes to contract time. Looking forward to seeing what the new regime can do in 2020.

We could have signed Garrett to an extension or hired Rich Kotite (even if he's no longer alive - didn't bother to check) and Irvin would have backed the move.

I like Mike but he's a cheerleader these days. Unlike Aikman, I haven't heard Irvin be critical of anything Cowboys.

Maybe, but his reasoning is solid.

He said live on air after the loss to Philly that it was time for Garrett to go. I was surprised he said it and so was he. He tried to soften it the next day.

Urban Meyer was preferred choice, he won everywhere he went and lobbied hard for job.

But will give McCarthy a chance.

Mike need to give them the full metal jacket speech. Because I am hard you will not like me but the more you hate me the more you will grow to understand that while I am hard I am fair, I do not discriminate you are You Are All Equally Worthless

Of course I had to clean it up. lol

McCarthy was the only HC candidate hiring that made the most sense.
A super bowl win resume, an great offensive mind for further development of Dak.(no other NFL team can hire him away and the offense always stays with us)
And maybe M&M was picky about the NFL team he'd ultimately ends up with.

Apparently it was critically important to hit the ground running instead of going thru a big learning curve with the risk of college HC's or a rookie novice HC.
M&M had heady credentials and he had a plan on both sides of the ball and even in the locker room facility (firing of strength coach Woicik)

I love Irvin but he kisses Jerry’s ***.
ever think he really thinks this was a good hire?

I didnt like it much when he was signed. By himself its not a good hire but the staff he's gotten this has turned out to be a great hire.

This team doesnt need to be torn apart. It needed competent coaching. Coaching that isnt fighting with other coaching philosophies that are supposed to be working together. From whats come out, these coaches are what was wrong in 2019. How did they expect for the players to come together and play football when the coaches couldnt even see eye to eye. Too many coaches trying to do too many things that stepped on toes.

If these players cant produce under these coaches then ill start believing its the players.
