Agreed. But I don't dog an athlete for wanting to get as much as they can. Football is a violent sport and the athletes have limited windows.
Well no me neither, I don't blame players for holding out.

My point is just that I don't think it's as simple as "Dallas should have signed these guys last year." Unless it's some market-setting deal, there's no reason for Amari, Byron or Dak to do so.

As for Amari , they should let him walk while it's still possible .

We completely lost a 1st round pick there, now its time to let him walk ... and let him lead the league in drops playing for another team .

I just stopped in because it had absolutely nothing to do w/Dak. Oh wait -------> runs

Sorry, he naturally is one of those top FAs, listed by several sites as the No. 1 FA. Of course, if Brady and Brees were in their prime, everyone would list them above him.

I will go with MM and WM on the evaluation of our roster as well as any new FA's coming in, then over posters.
We will lose some FA's that are worth keeping for a decent contract. But so will all teams.

Like I think they wanted to keep Hitchens but knew he was going to get a bigger offer than they wanted to pay.
This will be like Quinn, Bennett and a few others this off season. Maybe even Anthony Brown. But he is one I would not mind having back on a 2 year deal. And since he ended the season on IR, that may be a good possibility.

Brown isn't great but he is not horrible either. But he is serviceable,

I agree that if we're going to lose Jones (which I hope we don't), it makes it important to sign Brown to at least compete for one of the top three corner spots.

There are FAs you lose every year, but you need to keep your building blocks ... and I think all three of these players are building blocks. They are young and should be able to play at a high level for the duration of their next contract.

Hitchens is a good player, but he wasn't a building block.

Personally, I feel the Cowboys grossly mishandled this off-season by letting all three of these guys' contracts expire at the same time.

Meanwhile, they signed Jaylon Smith and Zeke a year before they had to (I realize Zeke held out). They had affordable control of their contracts through next season.

I'm not sure they wanted to let them all three expire at the same time, but because of the amount of cap space we have and ability to restructure for me, they can still get all three under contract even if they have to tag a couple.

Top free agents doesn't mean much when you start looking at the once future stars who were considered ready for prime time. We're talking.....

Matt Flynn
Nick Foles
Kirk Cousins
Neil O'Donnell
Sam Bradford
(Larry Brown or need we mention Brock Osweiler or Albert Haynesworth?)

Nice to see, but it doesn't mean a lot until the ball is snapped.

Even Deion makes this list......

https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/2019/03/10/15-worst-free-agent-signing-nfl-history/

Generally, the idea is if your own are worth keeping (which again, these sites say they are the top FAs at their positions), then you keep them. Venturing into acquiring other teams' FAs gets a little trickier because you are hoping the success they had elsewhere will translate and sometimes it doesn't.

I still think we need to take a hard look at FA defensive tackles and safeties, but I won't be surprised if we go the low-ball route again there because the Joneses are very hesitant to overpay for outside FAs. I think the most realistic route is for them to hold on to these FAs then address those two positions in the draft. I'd like to see them hold on to Quinn as well, but I still think he was a one-year placeholder for Gregory, whom the Joneses believe will be on the field because of a policy change concerning marijuana use.

People on the outside don't seem to realize Jones is overrated. Sure, he doesn't get a lot of looks, but why would he when QB's can go to the other side all day long for easy completions?

Hahaha the logic behind this thought makes me laugh

We tried to sign at least 2 of the 3, and they wouldn't play ball.
exactly it wasn't a gamble they actually offered very fair deals..the players and agents took the gamble and thats why they are still unsigned..

fans act as if we should pay whatever the player asks for without resistance..thats not how business works..they were in negotiations ALL OFF season last year..they dodnt ignore it one but..

Dak being a top FA has more to do with his age and health, just happens to fall that way..it for sure doesnt make it the most talented, hes very inconsistent..

they might not weigh injury or watch players like we do like AC missing a lot pf plays and some games and has a degrative foot issue, he didnt seem very motivated and thats dangerous to give player top money..you have to weigh all that in, BJ maybe great but hes not making big splash plays but he wants top dollar?

those factors leave an element of doubt you have to take into consideration when contracts come up and all of them want to be market setters..

Dak is the number one FA. Teams would line up to sign him if he could really test the market. Cousins sucked and he got a fully guaranteed contract. QB’s are like gold.

This site has us with three of the top pending FAs at their positions: Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper and Byron Jones. In fact, they are three of the top eight overall. https://nfltraderumors.co/top-25-2020-nfl-free-agents-list/

This site has all three of them among the top seven, and also first at their positions. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl...players-by-position/qyh7txt8tytt1e9e5e76mip61

This site has Prescott second at QB behind Brees, but Cooper and Jones as the best at their spots, and all three in the top nine. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-the-50-best-available-nfl-free-agents-in-2020

There are plenty of threads on this board that show that some of our fans do not value our players as much as more objective ratings do.

Maybe that because we watch our players more than anyone else does and know their true value. Or maybe it's because we watch our players so much more than other players that we don't understand how they compare.

Whatever the reason, there's a clear disconnect between what some of our fans think of our FAs and what others on the outside do.

I agree with those more objective voices and think we would be foolish to let any of these players leave and think we can just replace them with players of equal or greater ability.
That can't be true because I have been told here that Dak is garbage and nobody would want him in the league......

I would say we should sign Dak and Cooper and time to let jones go. resign Quinn and Bennett and go after a safety (who is available in FA?) and DT.

Not really interested in Bennett. When we signed him, we were hoping he could add some interior pass rush. I think we're better off looking elsewhere for that.
