In 1968 the game Dallas went to Cleveland as a big favorite. They got beat down 31-20 in what was a bigger whipping than the final score. It was Don Meredith's last start and last game. I remember seeing a TV shot of him on the sidelines in the fourth quarter looking beat down and finished. Craig Morton was mopping up. Dallas fans could not believe how their Cowboys that had a 12-2 record fall so badly on that day. And it did not get better fast. The next season with Morton and Staubach alternating at QB it did not improve. They took an even bigger thumping in the playoffs at Cleveland. It was not a good time for Cowboy fans. Little did we know we were actually gonna be OK because we had Landry, Schramm and Co. and we had an elite QB in Staubach to build around.

IMHO this home loss to the Packers had the same feel to it and worse. The worse part of it is knowing that Jones and Son are the ones to lead us out of this. They do not have a successful history to instill hope in the fan base. They have some really outstanding talent on the roster but they also have a bunch of holes to fill. Probably too many holes to fill in one off season. We have indeed reached the point where we need a miracle to recover....perhaps more than one miracle.

I watched both those games on TV in San Antonio.
Unlike yesterday, the Cowboys were competitive in 1968 Eastern Conferences title game...it was 10-10 at the half.
The wheels came off in the 3rd quarter...Meredith threw back- two back INTs - one a pick-six -- that led to 14 quick points for a 24-10 lead.
The 1969 playoff game was more like yesterday...Cowboys were at home, but fell behind 14-0 and never recovered.

Yes....that is correct. But does it matter if Meredith and his team blew the game in the 3rd quarter and Prescott and his team lost the game in the first half? One more thing that made that '68 Cleveland game such a disappointment was the fact that the Cowboys beat the Browns 52-14 in the playoffs the year before in Dallas.
