Timb2 now takes the Timeback machine to 1984 Pearson retired,Newhouse,Harvey Martin,Billy Joe Dupree,Pat Donavan

'83 was the opportunity Coach Landy needed to get his next dirty dozen.
DB albert lewis was in that draft.
so was carl lee.
karl mecklenburg just looked like a Cowboy.
richard dent behind too tall and big harv...that changes things for us as the 80s roll along.
also in that draft were og's tom thayer and mark bortz....would've helped tremendously up-front as our stars started aging out.
wr mark clayton was exactly the type of receiver we needed.
but the key would've been getting dan marino.
maybe danny slides into a role as off asst coach later.
i love jim jeffcoat.
but how i wish we woulda snagged danny marino.
whole decade changes.

imagine adding albert lewis back there with everson walls and company.
our secondary was already great.
but as the decade rolled along...dennis thurman, ron fellows and clinkscale were gone.
having albert lewis and or carl lee would've helped in the way we hoped ron francis would.

too bad mike walter didn't latch on here.
he turned into a really solid player on those 9ers teams.
we could've used him.
but he just didn't fit the flex.

here's my '83 re-do...
1.dan marino,qb
2.albert lewis,db
3.tom thayer,og
4.mark bortz,og
5.irv eatman,ot
6.carl lee,cb
7.richard dent,de
8.mark clayton,wr
9.jesse sapolu,c
10.tim krumrie,dt
11.karl mecklenberg,lb
12.anthony carter,wr

i love these what if's.
you can do this with any draft but it has always amazed me how...after passing up joe montana....'83 presented us with another chance...dan marino.
and we pass.
a few years later we could've had jeff hostetler or rich gannon.
when the vikings were starting wade wilson...tex tried to swing a trade for gannon.
but to me...marino was the golden ticket.
he was EXACTLY the type of qb Coach Landry loved.
i don't think i've heard gil talk about why they passed...i'd love to pick his brain on that.
and richard dent.
and karl mecklenberg.

We trade Danny White for most likely 7th overall pick to the Bengals who had grabbed Boomer Esiason in the 2nd. Cowboys either traded or cut Butch Johnson and we got Mike Refro and we dont need him. I trade Butch Johnson to the Lions where Lions had previously offered a 1st round for him a year or 2 before and I take the deal. Also this is the year Gary Hogeboom challenged Danny White as the starter. So I'm trading him for a 1st round also. The team who has some,QB issues is Atlanta who was trying to make it a go with David Archer.

TIME MACHINE PICKS

1- Wilbur Marshall OLB Florida
1- Keith Millard DT Washington State
1- John Alt OT Iowa
1- William Robert's OG Ohio State
2-Sean Jones DE Northeastern
3- Jay Schroeder QB UCLA
4-Ron Heller OT Penn State
5- Michael Carter Dt SMU
5- Kevin Ross CB Temple
6- Eugene Lockhart MLB Houston
6- Earnest Byner FB East Carolina
7- Shaun Gayle S Ohio State
8- Reggie White DE Tennessee *
9- Steve Young QB BYU*
10- Garry Zimmerman OT Oregon*
11-Hershel Walker RB Georgia*
12-Gary Clark WR James Madison*

All the USFL stars were in the 1984 Supplemental Draft. Al Davis broke this next year when he drafted Bo Jackson in the regular draft .Then we drafted Hershel Walker we held the rights of these players if they're league folded.. YES NEXT YEAR WE ARE JUMPING AHEAD OF THE RAIDERS TO GET BO JACKSON

Special teams with Bates,Patterson, and McConkey could have been awesome.

Talk about leading the league in sacks

No one is getting a outside pass rush and how many 1000 yard RBs could we have?

We will just have are D-line corps ready to go to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl.

Just think this would have been before Free agency where players couldn't hop team to team

Better yet take it to 1985 and we don’t let the Niners to jump us and take Jerry Rice. That one hurts.

Funny thing we could have picked all these studs and the sportswriters still wouldn't select them for the Hall of Fame. Lol

Ok I'm in 1985 and I see Al Davis giving Pete Rozelle the finger. I see Mel Kiper hardening his hair with rubber cement for the big Draft Show....I see Bears and future Colts GM. Bill Tobin mumbling " Who the h@$% is Mel Kiper"?... OK !! Here we go. .The Draft is moving Bruce Smith,Ray Childress now we are getting close to our pick Kansas City,New England( They traded with the 49ers remember) then the Cowboys...I call Kansas City" Hey how is that Todd Blackledge QB thing working for you"?? " Not so good," " How about we trade you Steve Young for your pick"? " You not sure ,well who you going to pick"? " ETHAN HORTON"??? I give you Steve Young and Timmy Newsome and you give me your 1st round and let's say that kid Albert Lewis guy"? "GOOD DEAL"!!
