I'm sick and tired of hearing about the labor dispute, so I thought I'd put this out there.

This is a little extreme, but we all know the Cowboys OL has been neglected too long. The players we have (except for Free really) all lack youth, movement, motivation and seemingly aggressiveness. Kosier moves OK, but Colombo, Davis, and Gurode do not.

I was thinking that the Cowboys really could focus on OL in this draft and get most of what they need to fix that unit.

Not likely that Dallas would do this, but these players could very well be there for Dallas to take at these picks.

Rd. Pick Player Pos. School

1 14* Tyron Smith OT USC
2 40 Danny Watkins OG Baylor
2 47* Stefen Wisniewski OG Penn St.

*Cowboys trade back to pick #14 with St. Louis, who trades up to #9 to take Julio Jones, WR Alabama. Dallas gets St. Louis’ second round pick, #47 overall.

Smith is a day 1 starter at RT and Watkins is a day 1 starter at LG. If Wisniewski should work his way into a starter at C.

That would leave Kosier, Gurode, and Davis to battle it out as the starting RG.

So assuming that Gurode was to win the starting RG job, that would have Dallas with the starting OL of:

Free
Watkins
Wisniewski
Gurode
Smith

It’s certainly not likely… but it is possible that those guys could be there on those picks. And getting (at least) three starters from any draft is a good haul.

That would leave the later rounds and free agency to fill any other spots on the team. Any real help at DL, CB, or S would have to come via free agency.

I'm not really suggesting we should do this but what would you think of starting the season with 3 rookies on the OL?

I'm ok with trading back for smith, I would rather have Carimi but atleast you aren't taking Smith at 9.

40 for Watkins is to high for me, at 27 years old when he starts next year no thanks. If I'm rafting a guy in the top 40 I should be able to get more than 5 years out of him.

I really don't like Wisniewski. Not strong and does not fit the cowboys OL. He was owned by Alabama and Florida this year. Guorde isn't moving anywhere, not saying he should or shouldn't just saying he isn't going to.

Also I wouldl like Dallas to go OL early and stack up but I don't see Jerry going 3 OL with the first 3 picks.

Ijalana is my top LG in the 2nd round Rackley is my top LG in the 3rd. Cannon is my top RG and Orlando Franklin and John Moffit are 2 and 3. I don;t think Dallas will go C this year unless its late. The centers this year aren't that great. Nest years draft looks good for centers and ILBs.

I think Smith will be gone before 14. He is shooting up the charts and will have his pro day at the end of March as I recall. best tackle in the draft. I would have no problem using our first three picks on O line at all. As regards the Old rookie, we would still get him for the best years of his career. And if he could be a day one starter that would be fine.

I agree. I think there will be a demand for the tackles and they're going to go earlier than people think.

3 rookies starting on an o-line.

Romo better get his dancing shoes ready for this ball.

How much worse can it be than Big and Columbo starting?

my only problem with Watkins is picking him top 40. I would much rather have Ijalana or Cannon. Something about a younger player that is just about the same talent level.

Got a point. But talent aside, at least he has some continuity with them.

Now Gurode, I wouldn't say that continuity thing ever came to fruition. :)

I would trust 3 new starters, but not all 3 being rookies.

If it is an OL we draft I would like it to be Carimi or Cannon because we need someone to be our anchor and leader and those 2 have those qualities.

What he said

I'd rather go this route:

14 - Gabe Carimi
40 - Phil Taylor
47 - Ben Ijalana

As stated before, I would steer away from Watkins due to his age. I also think Cannon could be had at 71. With that said, we could nix Ijalana at 47 and take a CB. Say, Jimmy Smith or Aaron Williams. Just a thought.

Wonder if we are one of the teams that have reportedly taken Jimmy Smith off of our board.

Aaron Williams is interesting as he could be a CB and/or S.

I like Williams but as a nickel CB or FS.
I don' think he is ready to start at CB or FS in the NFL but I think he could take the nickel spot away form Scandrick and in a few years after developing Williams move him to FS.

I wouldn't be surprise to see Jerry get Harris and WIlliams in the 2nd round if they have two 2nds.

this would be nice.
Carimi
Taylor
Harris
Cannon

but I think Taylor is a late 1st round pick or real early 2nd. I don't see him getting by the 3-4 teams late 1st or early 2nd.

I think if they have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds then they will go OT,CB/FS,DE and OG. I wouldn't ming getting two secondary guys in the 2nd lets say Harris and Williams I just don't see it happening.

Taylor wont get out of round 1. People talked about his weight and conditioning. Didnt he lose like 30lbs? Thats dedication

Yeah I think he may slide out of 1. I said in my post that I think he will be taken late 1st or very early 2nd. to many 3-4 teams late 1st or early 2nd that needs a NT.

Man, getting those three players would be awesome.

Tyron Smith is the cornerstone of your offensive line for the next 12 years, and he can be great (special) at RT or LT, imo. You have the best offensive linemen in this year's draft and a true blue-chip player. Blue-chip players win championships, and now you have one on your offensive line. You invested in your skill players on offense. Smart move. Big thumbs up.

Love the Watkins pick. He can plug and play and be a huge upgrade over Kosier.

Love the Penn State (Wisniewski) center pick. I've read where he may slide to the third round, but Dallas probably has him with a second round grade, I bet.

I get my favorite player in the draft (Smith) and much, much needed interior line help.

Felix Jones and Tony Romo would be very, very, very happy. If they are happy, the WRs and TEs will feel the love, too.

Good way of thinking about it. Hopefully Jerry understands that you can have all the weapons in place and still not amount to anything if your star QB can't get enough from his O-Line to hit the star WR/TE.

The Cowboys' lines are in bad shape (especially the offensive line), and the organization passed on 5 starting offensive linemen in the 2009 draft and passed on a great value in Phil Loadholt in round 2. I would look to correct that 2009 draft debacle by addressing this offensive line and build around the skill players on offense. I would want to put the skill players (on offense) in the best position that I possibly could to succeed. This offense should be the defense's best friend, but playing with this current offensive line, is like fighting with one hand behind your back. In this case, the best defense is a great offense, pass and rush.

I don't think you can fix both lines in one year, and this team is going no where with this current offensive line. Just look at the two divisional playoff losses. I'd focus my premium picks on the offensive line. All you have to do is look at the New York Jets for an example.

I like this mock, because it addresses the offensive line in a big way. Smith will most likely come of the board in the 9-13 range, and I would sit at 9 and draft Smith when he clears Arizona. Tyron Smith would be priority number one, and I'd go to the second round, knowing that I have the most talented and best offensive linemen in the draft. Plus, he will play at 20 years old.

I like Watkins, but he could go in late round one to a contender looking to sure up their interior. He could be long gone by 40, with the other top interior OL prospects. I'm seeing where Steve Wisniewski could slide to round 3, but I'd probably be glad to take him at 40. If he didn't have a second round grade by the Cowboys, I'd be disappointed. I'd take him or a CB, because there should be value at CB.

In round three, Jason Pinkston should be there at 71, and he is a good looking athletic, strong guard. I'd take him at 71. He played OT at Pitt.

You could take three offensive linemen with your first three picks, and the defensive draft happy elements at Valley Ranch could just sit there and bite their tongues, because they blew it on the offensive line in the 2009 draft.

9. Tyron Smith OT USC BLUE CHIP PLAYER

40. Steve Wisniewski C Penn State

71. Jason Pinkston OG Pittsburgh

I'd really like that draft.

Enough with the late round scrubs and small school projects and projects no one else drafted. You can't put all your eggs in Phil Costa's and Sam Young's basket. In fact, expecting or depending on them to stand out in this division is foolish, especially in Young's case. Costa may have something, but I'm not holding my breath on him and passing on a standout player like the center from Penn State, in favor of one undrafted player. That would be incredibly stupid. If someone wants to pass on a blue chip OT like Smith in favor of a scrub like Young or another lower tiered tackle, I'd fire them. :) Probably already should have been done.
