Based on his last few years in Minnesota, Zimmer runs a pretty standard base nickel with a lot of man coverage. It's on the conservative side, not a lot of disguises, few blitzes, and they often come from an LB over the A-gap.

The biggest "stress points" in his defense are at LB (where he always kept Barr and Kendricks paid well) and at CB (where he drafted about 500,000 corners without success). Both of those come from his high-volume man coverage.

Honestly, the scheme is going to look pretty anonymous on TV. It won't seem all that different from any other NFL team when you are watching the game. You could tell a Dan Quinn defense by the wide RE split and the "wait, isn't a safety?" long, skinny dudes roaming around the box. Zimmer is just going to set up in base 4-man nickel and maybe have an LB bluff.

This has been discussed as well. But here are 4 answers to that question.

All mention a difference at LB's, and how they were used and how many as opposed to DQ.
As the article states, Zimmers defense is predicated on stopping the run which falls heacily on the DTs and LBs, do we currently have dawgs at those positions to make that happen?

Sceme is important but at the end of the day one has to beat the man in front of him.

Roster, roster, roster.

Currently no. But will they step up and grow up to become dawgs.
