Eatman: "I just don't see the Cowboys putting all of their faith in an unproven player. They're going to have to be close to perfect to stick around. This is too good of a football team to take a chance at a position that is so crucial. I think they sign one of the veterans available before the first game."

On the one hand, teams try unproven kickers all the time. Some stick. Some don't. That they're "going to have to be close to perfect" is a given, but then again, that's no less true of a proven guy, particularly when he's older and so easily written off as being done.

Cowboys are not convinced either.

Don't be suprised if a third kicker is signed up to perform in Oxnard.

And the FO could have already notified some vet PKs (Brett Maher, Robbie Gould, etc.) are still under consideration to join the Cowboys.

No source...just a hunch on how the NFL teams have gone about acquiring FG/PK players over the last few years leading up to, and / or during training camp, and into preseason.

Eatman: longtime sports media person covering the Cowboys - expressing his concerns on how the FO\Coaching Staff moves forward in solidifying that position for the 2023 season.

We shouldnt be comfortable with any rostered kicker at this point.
These two knuckleheads are here because they are both a cheap look right now, kickers or even more a dime a dozen than most proclaim RB are,,, my Long Snapper is 10 times more valuable than any Kicker on this roster right now,,, end of the bench with you.
If we dont see something somewhat early, than easy churn, plenty of option in the pool.

Kinda disagree, if it hasn't already come across that way.

Unlike any other position on the field... eg, a WR may excel at one level in some other league, but until he gets to the NFL, there's some room for debate whether he can make the transition... kicking is kicking is kicking. It may get harder to run routes and catch passes because the defenders are better, but there's no such opposing element to consider for kickers.

Aubrey is here because he's been tested, and he's become over the course of two seasons, a very dependable kicker.

Aubrey was 14 of 15 on FGs this season and made all of his PATs. Then in the postseason, he only missed one of 12 kicks -- an extra point. If he carries that over to this preseason, that is close to perfect and Dallas has no reason to go with a proven vet over a soccer player who only recently has become a FG kicker.

I don't get the infatuation with the Cowboy kicking situation. They signed Maher in August last year.

There are plenty of things to be much more worried about.

Are you really concerned about the kicker at this point?

I would say if Aubrey continues this pattern and doesn't implode like that TT kicker Garibay did, he will get the job. Rather go with him than another retread with a big contract. Kicking in the NFL is mental. They all have strong legs.

The only exception would be Crosby, would not mind getting him.

A lot can happen between now and week one. The CFL, USFL, and XFL all have kickers, along with veteran free agents who are out there.

Make some popcorn and watch the show.

Loads of options. I would keep a look out for Nick Folk

Well, when your kicker sets an NFL record for most missed extra points in a PLAYOFF game you need to do something.

The practices and the preseason games should rightly play a vital role in deciding the winner of the Cowboys kicking chores -- it usually does.

Another topic that we discussed before.

Is week 1 K actually on the roster yet?
Will they roll with 1 of the 2 that have now, regardless if they still have some struggles? Because there is no one out there that may be better.
Hard to believe there are't many K's available.
This is just another monster blunder by jerry. Jerry has aspirations to win a SB with the worst kicker in the NFL? What an idiot. Last clown missed 7 extra points in a row in the playoffs and he still didnt learn his lesson. How many sbs and big games in the playoffs have been won by clutch kickers?
