On this day in 2003, Cowboys Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones announced that former Team President and General Manager Tex Schramm (1959-89) would be the 12th person added to Cowboys Ring of Honor at Texas Stadium.
Ever since Tex left, he maintained a suite at Texas Stadium & attended games hoping one day to see his name up there.
“I never gave up hope," the 82-year-old said at the time, his eyes filling with tears. "Things that should happen to people that deserve them, usually do happen."
Despite sitting side-by-side next to Jerry they didn't shake hands and never made eye contact.
Sadly, Tex’ health was failing and his wife had passed away 5 months earlier.
Tex passed away 10 weeks later and was inducted posthumously in October 2003.

I was at the game against the Eagles when he was put into the Ring of Honor. It was a fun game.

Another epic fail by Jerry. Not getting Tex in before he passed is unacceptable and just wasn't right.

What Tex did for the Cowboys and the NFL in general was amazing. He deserved better.
I believe Tex was reluctant to be inducted into the ROH like Landry originally was. Tex was very angry with the way things went down when Jerry bought the team and he didn’t like him. He would refer to Jerry as “Jones.” Jerry probably offered to induct him earlier, but he didn’t want to go in probably because he didn’t want to attend the ceremony. He was still bitter. Landry didn’t want to be inducted either, he had to be talked into it. Roger Staubach, and several other former players had to urge him to accept the honor. I read an article somewhere years ago that Tex was so angry with the way Landry was fired that he commented that he wanted to spend a few minutes with Jerry alone so he could punch him. I wouldn’t be blaming the delay on Tex’s ROH induction on Jerry.

Disrespectful by Jerry… I fear the same thing will happen to Jimmy.
I would wager a large sum of money that Jerry reached out to Tex about inducting him into the ROH and he refused. He didn’t like Jerry and was still very bitter about the way Landry’s firing was handled and the entire transition took place. Landry said in an interview that he was upset about it and so was Tex. It took a while for Landry to finally accept being inducted into the Cowboys ROH. He had to be talked into it and admitted it in an interview. Jimmy’s situation is a lot different. He’s not in the ROH because Jerry is bitter. Jimmy wants to be in the ROH and Jerry refuses to put him in.

Tex probably wanted to be in the Cowboys ROH, but he didn’t want to attend the ceremony. I believe he was still bitter at Jerry who forced him out and didn’t want to be in his presence or shake his hand. It took a while to convince Tom Landry to show up at Texas stadium and accept an ROH induction. It would’ve been a very awkward situation for Jerry to put Tex in the ROH while he was still living and him not being part of the ceremony. I believe this is what led to him being inducted posthumously.

Because of his numerous ideals and innovations, Tex Scramm was inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame TWELVE YEARS -1991 -before Jones decided to grant him Cowboys ROH status.

The late, great coaching legend Don Shula once declared:
"I truly believe he had as much, or more, to do with the success of professional football as anyone connected to the league."

In spite of all the thoughts on Jerry of when and the timing of Tex, Tom, and everything that happened before that.

Both are in, and we Cowboys fans should be proud of all their accomplishments.

I don't hold a grudge against Jerry for anything or on how it all went down. I don't waste brain cells on such things, it is of no use to do so.
I look att he ROH, the HOF, and Tom's statue in front of Jerry world, and the 5 SB trophies, and am proud to be a life long fan.

He does need to get Jimmy in very soon though. You don't win 2 SB's back to back, building the team from nothing to an even getting a 3rd SB under Switzer. And do not get into the ROH.
It needs to happen this season actually.

Go Cowboys :star::starspin::star::flagwave::clap::yourock::thumbup:
