I'm normally against giving all that money to one player, even a pitcher but considering this is the only chance we might EVER have at keeping a Top-5 pitcher in baseball, you gotta go for it and try to sell Lee on staying in the south, close to his home in Arkansas.

Was a great season and I look forward to the next. This is my wish list for this offseason:

Resign Cliff Lee
Pick up a first baseman to either take over the position or just platoon/backup Moreland (My options are: Dunn,LaRoche, even Pena)
Go after a defensive catcher, if Bengie doesn't come back (honestly just resign Treanor)
We need one more good OF (I personally would say go hard after Werth or Crawford)
And shore up your bullpen (I go after Soriano & Benoit, maybe try and keep Francisco)

We only need a few good pieces to supplement what we have now and we can make another deep run. We're looking at going from a $50 mil payroll team to somewhere around 80-90.... Plenty of room to spend.

If the Rangers do attack free agency this year, here's my "dream" scenario.. Granted, some of these names aren't "flashy" by any means, but I'm trying to keep things somewhat realistic... perhaps.

**Re-sign Cliff Lee to a 4 year, $95 million contract extension.**

In my views, bringing Lee back is priority number one this off-season. He's easily one of the top pitchers in baseball, and without question a pitcher that in a short time revived the fortunes of Ranger baseball.

While the World Series was a bit of a letdown, the fact that they even made it that far was a major step forward and Lee was a big reason behind that.

This deal would give him Sabathia money, and make him one of the top paid pitchers in baseball, but it wouldn't handcuff them for the next decade like the A-Rod deal did. At 32, I think a four year deal is both economically feasable and logical for the Rangers.

**Sign Brandon Webb to a 3 year, $12 million contract with incentives**

I expect pitching to be addressed at some point this off-season. While Colby Lewis far and away lived up to his contract, and was one of the great bargains of the 2010 free agent market, and CJ Wilson finished in the top ten in the American League with wins, ERA and complete games; I still think the Rangers need at least one more arm.

Webb has missed the last two seasons with shoulder bursitis, and had surgery on the procedure last year. By 2011, he's expected to be at 100 percent and ready to go.

With the incentives, I feel this protects the Rangers just in case he's not at 100 percent. However, when he is, there's no question Webb is one of the best pitchers in baseball, and would fill out the Texas rotation very nicely. If at 100 percent, and pitching as he did in his hayday, he'd give Texas quite a 1-2 punch with Lee (in the scenario Lee re-signs) and he'd give Texas a rather nice starting rotation.

** Sign Jesse Crain to a 3-year, $10 million contract**

Now that Feliz has established himself as the closer of the immediate and forseeable future for Texas, they need to build the rest of the bullpen with it.

Crain is a nice bridge pitcher, good for a 7th or 8th inning spot and could be a nice bridge between the starter and Feliz. At 29, he's still moderately young too.

**Sign Scott Downs to a 3 year, $12 million dollar contract**

Downs is another "bridge pitcher", who seemingly would be a fit for the 8th inning woes. He's steady and solid, and gives the bullpen an added boost.

**Sign Melky Cabrera to a 2 year, $6 million dollar contract**

The Milk Man seemingly hit the wall in Atlanta this season, however I still view him as a quality OF with some upside.

I view him as a possible reclamation project at LF for the Rangers, and he could wind up proving to be a bit of a pleasant surprise.

What the hell?!!? Why would you want Melky Cabrera when you already have David Murphy!?!?

Murphy is a better player in both fielding and at the plate! :laugh2:

That doesn't even speak of the many clutch hits Murphy has!

As a bench guy? Yeah.. As someone who could come in and be a fourth or fifth outfielder, it's not going to hurt.

Norm just said on the Ticket that he believes the Rangers will be very active in FA and will be going after big name guys. I don't know much about baseball but it's encouraging to hear that this team wants to stay successful and is willing to do whatever it takes.

Why spend millions when you've got guys who will do it for cheaper?

We have Jeff Francoeur, David Murphy, Julio Borbon, Josh Hamilton, Nelly, and not to mention Mitch Moreland who can play outfield in a pinch. Who are you going to replace? I think I keep all of them over Melky.

Now replacing Cantu is a TOP priority! :laugh2:

I hope they don't go on a big time spending spree. They've got money to spend and I'm okay with that. They set a target of $90M I hope they don't go over that. Build from within. It's EXTREMELY important if you don't have the Yankee's budget and actually want to remain a winner.

Obviously, Hamilton and Nelly are secure, Moreland is set at first. Murph is a nice player. I'm not suggesting Cabrera start by any means.

Moreland needs to get all the time at 1B he can get. He's clearly proven he deserves to start there.

Ideally, if we're throwing money out the window, I'd rather have Adam Dunn over Cabrera, but the Rangers aren't the Yankees and can't throw money freely. I do think Dunn could ask for 4 at $60 million, but I still don't see Texas doing it.

I'd like to see them bring Molina back to be truthful.
He's heavily considering retiring. I think you need to make plans for the future. Bring back Treanor and see if you can get another catcher elsewhere.

Moreland is set at first, so I don't see the need there. I caught a quick snippet of an interview with Kinsler where he was asked if he thought Moreland had set himself as the regular first baseman, and his response was that everyone should be fired if he hasn't.

I don't think we need another outfielder, but we do need another DH. Vlad was huge for us at points this year, but he went through slumps where his mechanics were even horrible for his normal standards. With Vlad it was either feast or famine.

Which leads to the team's one problem on offense, which is the need for more consistency. The team has a high runs per game average, but it's built on stretches of high scoring games, and other stretches of barely being able to scratch out runs. A more consistent, game to game ability to score runs without the wide fluctuations is the key.

I agree we need Lee back. If we can't do that we need another top veteran. Maybe not Lee caliber - that won't likely be available for a price we want to pay anyway - but a strong No. 1 veteran type. The depth of the rotation and the maturing of the younger guys like Hunter and Holland should fill out the bottom of the rotation nicely. A high quality veteran in the bullpen would be a big plus. Just one - the young arms can cover the rest just fine. A little maturity and experience from a well respected guy would be a positive influence on those guys.

I think you use DH to rest some of your guys during the season, you can use their bats but they don't have to play the field, I personally think Vladdy would be welcome back but he's fallen off after the all star break and that worries me. If Bengie doesn't come back I go after Victor Martinez to go with Treanor. And I want Crawford to fill out our OF, I don't like Bourbon out there and with Crawford your OF would look like this: Crawford, Hamilton, Cruz (That's scary right there)

you can kiss Cliff Lee goodbye
I don't think so, I think the Rangers have a great shot to resign him (if the money and the years are right). They won't overpay for him like the Yankees will do on just about every player, but they will put up a competitive offer.
