Pick 27 (27)-- :starspin: CB Byron Jones Uconn :starspin:

img25169657.jpg

OVERVIEW
Missed final five games of 2014 with shoulder surgery. Played in started in 7 games before surgery. In 2013, converted to cornerback from safety and started all 12 games finishing with three interceptions. Started 12 games at safety in 2012. Played basketball and football in high school.

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Extremely smart and instinctive on the field. Shows above-average anticipation of routes. Is able to sniff out rub routes and works to avoid them. Flashes recovery speed downfield and gets head around to find ball and make a play on it. Uses instincts and adequate closing burst to disrupt the catch. Generally reliable tackler. Team captain and leader on the field and in the locker room. Scouts say he's willing to play hurt and inspires his teammates.
WEAKNESSES
Plays with high center of gravity. Has difficulty gearing down quickly and changing directions. Doesn't always play with feet under him. Will lose balance and footing too often. Not a quick-twitch athlete. Feet show noticeable stall before firing forward out of backpedal. Willing to tackle but not a physical player. Suffered season-ending shoulder injury in seventh game of 2014 season.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 1 or 2
SOURCES TELL US
"High-character player with the vision and instincts you want from an NFL cornerback. I'm not sure I like him in man coverage but there is a place for him in our league. Really nice young man who you cheer for." -- NFC North scout
NFL COMPARISON
Blidi Wreh-Wilson
BOTTOM LINE
Instinctive cornerback with good size and adequate speed. Has the ball skills and anticipation needed for the position. Jones' balance and overall athleticism could be a concern in man coverage and his season-ending shoulder injury will need to be examined. He would be an interesting free safety prospect with his instincts, but might lack the physicality for the position.

=========================================

STRENGTHS: Tall, athletic frame with good overall muscle definition and distribution. Possesses easy athleticism with light feet, fluid change of direction and quick acceleration to mirror receivers. Understands angles and shows good route recognition to keep his body between the quarterback and his receiver.

Often lined up in press coverage at UConn, showing the balance, aggression and confidence to compete for early playing time in a similar scheme in the NFL. Good vision to locate the football and shows good hand-eye coordination and soft mitts to take advantage of interception opportunities (eight over his career). Sound tackler who breaks down well and uses his long arms to lasso ball-carriers. Voted a team captain as a senior.

WEAKNESSES: Underwent surgery on his left shoulder in October and remains limited while he recovers. Wasn't viewed as a particularly physical defender even prior to the injury and therefore there is some concern as to how aggressive he'll be following surgery. Good lateral agility and balance but his feet tend to get stuck when breaking back toward the quarterback, leaving receivers a sliver of space to haul in passes.

To his credit, Jones closes quickly and is a reliable tackler. Said following his record-breaking leap that even he was surprised by his jump, saying that his personal best prior to the Combine was 11-7, a full eight inches short of his leap in Indianapolis.

COMPARES TO: Prince Amukamara, Giants: By suffering a season-ending shoulder injury midway through his senior season, Jones didn't earn all-conference or all-star game attention but the tape shows an instinctive, athletic defender with the size, toughness and work ethic to project as a future NFL starter.

--Rob Rang

PLAYER OVERVIEW
Jones is literally leaping up draft boards after he provided the highlight of the final workouts at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis with a standing broad jump of 12-feet-3 inches, that is not only the best ever at a combine, but a world record. The previous world record for the broad jump was 12-2, set Nov. 11, 1968 by Norwegian Arne Tvervaag of the Ringerike FIK Sportclub.

It wasn't just the broad jump that had scouts buzzing. Jones finished among the best performers at any position in the vertical jump (44 inches), 3-cone drill (6.78) and short shuttle (3.94).

With the Combine just three weeks removed from when he started running, Jones didn't run the 40-yard dash or perform in the positional drills and therefore how he performs at UConn's March 31 Pro Day will play a key role in his final grading.

Jones had left shoulder surgery in October, ending his second season as a starting cornerback after starting at safety in 2011 and 2012. At the time of the injury Jones had 24 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups. He returned one interception 70 yards for a touchdown.

He started 37 of 43 possible games for the Huskies, including six of the final seven games of his redshirt freshman season at safety while future NFL draft picks Blidi Wreh-Wilson (Tennessee Titans) and Dwayne Gratz (Jacksonville Jaguars) starred at cornerback. Jones finished with 223 tackles, 18 passes defended and eight interceptions in four years. He posted a career-high 88 tackles while playing at safety during the 2012 season, then set new career-bests with eight pass breakups and three interceptions in 2013 after converting to cornerback.

Jones has the athleticism for cornerback, but looks and tackles like safety at 6-1 and 199 pounds. He was a senior captain at UConn with impeccable character that has coaches gushing about his intangibles. Factor in the athletic prowess and Jones has created a ton of positive buzz -- and he didn't have to run the 40-yard dash to do so.

Pick 28 (60)-- :starspin:DE/OLB Randy Gregory Nebraska:starspin:

OVERVIEW
After just two seasons at Nebraska, Gregory ranks ninth on the school's all-time sack list with 17.5 sacks. As a junior in 2014, Gregory was named 2014 second-team All-American (FWAA) and first-team All-Big Ten (Media, Coaches). He missed two games and played sparingly in two others due to a knee injury he had suffered playing basketball in high school. Still managed a team-high seven sacks for 67 yards in losses. Gregory was third on the team with 10 tackles for loss and led the Huskers with 16 quarterback hurries. His 10.5 sacks as a sophomore in 2013 were the most ever by a first-year Husker and he was voted defensive MVP that season. He joined the Huskers after one season (2011) at Arizona Western CC, where he was regarded as the top junior-college defensive end prospect. He missed the entire 2012 season with a broken leg. Gregory also played basketball in high school and received Division I interest. He originally signed with Purdue to play football but didn't qualify academically.

PRO DAY RESULTS

60-yard shuttle: 11.81 seconds
Three-cone drill: 6.79 seconds
ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Tall with long levers and a lean, sinewy build. Batted down four passes in 2014. Stronger than expected at point of attack. Able to lock out and stay square against big offensive tackles and can whip most tight ends. Unhinges and gets tentacles on running backs bursting through gap. Room for more thickness on long frame. Competitive and shows toughness against run. Can chase and limit outside runs with speed. Secondary motor to stay in hunt downfield as tackler. Explosive hips. Gets instant change of direction to hound quarterbacks in play-action. Played standing up and with hand in ground. Rushed occasionally from ILB spot. Stride and second gear for quick close. Has bend and hips to convert speed to power. Showed improved timing and understanding of how to set up inside pass-rush move as season progressed. Hands are a blur. Explosive play traits to overwhelm technically deficient tackles. Can counter and recover from cut blocks. Flashes plus hand-feet coordination. As blitzer from ILB, will coil and explode into guard on contact step. More than tough enough. Willing to take on pulling guards with low pad level and aggressive pop.
WEAKNESSES
Thin through trunk and will play with a narrow base, causing balance issues. Almost always last player out of his stance at snap. Technique and feel as pass rusher lacking at this point. Thinks rather than plays. Takes occasional false steps as stand-up rusher. Time-waster. Too much time stutter-stepping tackles rather than exploding upfield. Fails to stress the high side of tackles to get them rocking. Makes it too easy for tackles to quick-set him. Plays man in front of him rather than "seeing through" to quarterback. Lacks creativity as rusher. Gets punched with his shoulders still squared rather than on an angle, which robs ability to turn edge. Doesn't process what he sees very quickly. Marginal play strength in pass rush and can be redirected. Was manhandled by Wisconsin blockers on two long touchdown runs by Melvin Gordon. Issues with positive drug tests are a significant concern.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 2 or 3
SOURCES TELL US
"He's super raw, but those physical tools are through the roof. That's why you pay coaches." -- NFC scouting director
NFL COMPARISON
Barkevious Mingo
BOTTOM LINE
A 3-4 outside linebacker with the length, toughness and closing burst to immediately help a run defense. Gregory could stand to add more weight to his frame and needs plenty of technique work and a patient coach for his pass-rush skill to match his traits. Gregory's draft stock has been clouded with a positive drug test at the combine to go with failed tests for marijuana while at Nebraska. High-ceiling, low-floor prospect.

============================================================

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
STRENGTHS: Uses length well to extend and shoot his arms into blockers. Explosive get-off and burst to advance upfield very quickly, displaying outstanding speed and closing burst in pursuit of the ballcarrier. Quick feet, east moving laterally to avoid blockers, appearing natural in space and on his feet with smooth change of direction movements. Active hands. Never quits fighting to the ball.

WEAKNESSES: Lean, lanky frame and needs to continue and develop strength and natural power. Needs to load more ammo into his hands to better convert speed to power. Struggles to anchor and can be driven backward, especially at the point of attack when attempting to leverage blockers who get under his pads. Injuries in 2014 to be inspected closely during pre-draft checks.

Compares To: Aldon Smith, San Francisco 49ers -- With the same combination of length and explosiveness to terrorize quarterbacks, Gregory has elite potential. A 4-3 defensive end for the Cornhuskers, he has the agility, speed and awareness to get home out of the two-point stance if a move to outside linebacker is required.

--Dane Brugler

PLAYER OVERVIEW
A Purdue commit out of high school, Gregory struggled to qualify and enrolled at Arizona Western where he blossomed into one of the top JUCO recruits in the nation. He transferred to Nebraska in the summer of 2013 and grabbed a starring role immediately with 66 tackles, including 19 behind the line of scrimmage and 10.5 sacks, most in the Big Ten.

A tumultuous 2014 season started poorly for Gregory and the Huskers. An "old" knee injury cropped up in the season-opener and Gregory missed the next game recovering from a scope. He wound up missing the regular-season finale and a showdown with Iowa left tackle Brandon Scherff with other injuries (reportedly head and ankle injuries). In between, he racked up another 50 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and seven sacks, along with two blocked kicks.

Gregory lacks polish and the bulk scouts would prefer. With great length and explosiveness among his tools, Gregory has the upside to rank among the NFL's most feared edge rushers if his current trajectory continues.

Pick 27 (91)-- :starspin: OT Chaz Green Florida:starspin:

STRENGTHS
Plays with good footwork and overall pass-protection technique on his initial pass sets. Hand placement is adequate. Plays with open eyes and desired football intelligence. Has a feel for stunts, twists and blitzes and can pick them up. Good initial quickness to get to tough reach blocks and climbs smoothly to second-level blocks. Played left and right tackle at Florida. Might have the athleticism and functional strength to play all five O-line positions.
WEAKNESSES
Poor base blocker in the run game. Doesn't get the hip rotation needed after initial engagement and plays with lean over drive, despite some power in his legs. Stops his feet and loses defender against counter moves on pass rushes. Could use more time in weight room for added upper-body strength. Needs to carry hands higher in pass-pro setup. Missing a jarring punch to keep pass rusher from caving the edge. Scouts question functional strength to redirect defenders around edge or on inside moves.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 5 or 6
NFL COMPARISON
Tanner Hawkinson
BOTTOM LINE
Athletic, heady player with potential position versatility. His foot quickness and movement skill will appeal to zone-scheme teams but he must improve his strength and ability in pass protection to be considered a full time tackle. Could end up transitioning into a full-time center role.

==================================

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
STRENGTHS: Wide base in his kickslide with natural movement skills for the position...displays the footwork to set up shop in space, getting to the second level quickly and utilizing proper body position...excellent spatial awareness with a strong understanding of what's going on around him...quick eyes to recognize blitzes, picking up "B gap" pressures and linebackers on combos, anticipating where rushers are coming from - not fooled by much.

Patient and disciplined in his stance, not jumping offsides when rushers do...large, strong hands to meet defenders with a jolt...versatile experience, starting at both left and right tackle over his career...voted a senior captain...tough-minded and has battled back from multiple injuries, working hard off the field to develop the mental part of the game - highly thought of by the coaching staff.

WEAKNESSES: Doesn't play with overwhelming strength in the run game, lacking mauling qualities...room to add bulk and needs to improve his functional power to control blocks once engaged...bad habits as a run blocker, dropping his head and losing sight of his target...tends to stop his feet at the point of attack and needs to improve his grip timing to avoid holding calls...adequate length for the position, but doesn't consistently use his reach effectively.

Struggles to re-anchor, allowing his base to narrow against secondary moves...not a passive player, but doesn't play mean either...strong durability concerns, missing extended playing time over his career - multiple ankle injuries, including a sprain (Oct. 2011) that forced him to miss four games as a redshirt freshman and another sprain (Nov. 2014) as a senior; missed all of 2013 due to a torn labrum that required surgery (Aug. 2013).

IN OUR VIEW: A very tough player both physically and mentally, Green would be better known as a NFL prospect if not for his injury history. His skill-set doesn't scream special, but he's very consistent when on the field, playing like a seasoned veteran in pass protection with the body control, feet and instincts to mirror in his kickslide.

He needs to refine his technique and intensity as a run defender, but his movement skills allow him to block with range. Green offers position versatility and has more strengths than weaknesses, but the fragile tag will be tough to shake as he repeatedly dealt with injuries over his career - worth a later round pick if the medical report card doesn't report lingering damage.

--Dane Brugler

PLAYER OVERVIEW
A four-star offensive tackle recruit out of high school, Green attracted dozens of offers, committing to Florida over Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee and USC.

After redshirting in 2010, he earned the starting right tackle job in 2011 and earned Freshman All-American honors, starting the first eight games before an ankle injury put him on the shelf. Green recorded 10 starts as a sophomore, but missed a few games due to injury in 2012 and then missed the entire 2013 season after a camp injury prior to the opener. He returned in 2014 and started 11 games, splitting time between left and right tackle.

Pick 28 (127)-- :starspin: LB Damien Wilson Minnesota :starspin:

STRENGTHS
Productive, volume tackler over his two years as a Gopher 'backer. Stays committed to the chase when ball spills wide. Shows a feel for blocks coming at him from an angle. Lines up the defense. Drops into zone coverage and spies the quarterback, mirroring the quarterback's eyes and cutting off the passing lane.
WEAKNESSES
Production and level of play fell off over his final four games against better competition, including Ohio State and Wisconsin. Allows himself to be cut-blocked on the second level. Lacks natural instincts from inside the box. Over-runs his run fit and can be easily pinned. Vacated his run responsibility, leading to long TDs from Ohio State's J.T. Barrett and Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon. Too often waits for blockers rather than beating them to the spot.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 6 or 7
BOTTOM LINE
Fills the stat sheet, but is missing traits associated with becoming a starting linebacker in the NFL. He is an average athlete with average speed and loses leverage in his run responsibilities. He's a willing chaser and he's around the action, so a move to the WILL outside 'backer spot might make the most sense in order to limit his liability against downhill rushing attacks.

=============================================

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
STRENGTHS: Solidly built frame with above average arm length for the position - lost 15 pounds prior to his senior season...quick first step and loves to throw his body around with very good closing burst...reliable tackling technique, lowering his head and opening arms to wrap and drive through his target...physical pop at contact with good take-on skills, using his long arms to work off bodies and keep blockers at bay.

Dialed-in instincts and plays with a chip - appeared more confident as a senior with a full year under his belt at Minnesota...passionate player who loves to compete and hates to come off the field...high threshold for pain and toughs through injuries...productive senior season, finishing third in the Big Ten in tackles per game (9.2).

WEAKNESSES: Needs to keep his weight under control and maintain consistent conditioning...aggressiveness hits both extremes, waiting for the action to come to him on some plays and then overpursuing misdirection on others - needs to find balance between his eagerness and discipline...has some hip tightness that shows in coverage when covering down the seam...room to improve his spatial awareness in zone coverages.

Needs to control his intensity and play smarter, eliminating late hit penalties...good speed, but struggles to make up ground after a false step...durability could be a long-term issue due to his propensity for physical collisions - tore the meniscus in his knee (Nov. 2013) that required surgery, but didn't miss a game.

SUMMARY: A cousin of former teammate David Cobb, Wilson started his career as an undersized defensive end at Alcorn State, but his desire to play on a bigger stage led him to the JUCO level where he was the National Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. He spent the last two seasons at Minnesota where he developed into one of the Big Ten's top linebackers in 2014 - lost weight, played faster with showed more confidence in the scheme.

Wilson is active and directs traffic pre-snap, showing the diagnose skills to attack and finish, although his aggressive play style will get the best of him and lead to mistakes. He is well-rounded with the physical temperament that fits what NFL teams are looking for at the position - back-up at the next level and late rounder.

--Dane Brugler

PLAYER OVERVIEW
A no-star defensive end recruit out of high school, Wilson started his career at Alcorn State and was one of the top FCS freshman pass rushers, but wanted to play at the FBS level.

After a season at Jones County Community College, he transferred to Minnesota and became a starter in 2013 as a junior, recording 79 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. Wilson started 12 games in 2014 as a senior and led the team with 119 tackles, adding 10.5 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks and one forced fumble, earning Second Team All-Big Ten honors. He earned an invitation to the 2015 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

Pick 27 (163)-- :starspin: DE Ryan Russell Purdue :starspin:

OVERVIEW
2014: Started all 12 games. 2013: Played in all 12 games with 11 starts. 2012: Started all 13 games. 2011: Played in all 13 games with 11 starts. 2010: Redshirted.

PRO DAY RESULTS

40-yard dash: 4.74 and 4.68 seconds
ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Looks the part. Long-armed with angular body. Takes wide, quick steps and can be difficult for tackles to handle when stunting. Quick feet with long steps to close on quarterback quickly in "T/E" twists. Flexible upper body. Very good change of direction to harass boot-action pass plays. Flashes a quick first step. Has adequate power at the point of attack. Still very raw with traits to potentially mold.
WEAKNESSES
Plays with a narrow base and loses balance. Has traits to get into linemen first, but doesn't bring anything in his hands to jar them. Raw pass rusher. Doesn't seem to have a plan and loses interest when stymied. Completely dominated by Wisconsin right tackle Rob Havenstein. Evaluators have expressed concern about competitive toughness. Content to stay blocked and doesn't fight to improve position. Out of position to finish tackles and misses more than he should.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 6 or 7
NFL COMPARISON
Cornelius Washington
BOTTOM LINE
Russell will frustrate NFL teams because he has many of the physical traits they covet, but he doesn't do enough with them. With just 8.5 sacks over the last three years, his production won't interest most teams, but his potential might.

=======================================

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
STRENGTHS: Prototypical NFL measureables for the position with ideal size, strength and speed...physical hands and adequate length to work off blocks with balance to continue his path to the pocket...smooth body type to sink and redirect while in pursuit...stays low off the snap, using leverage and hustle.

Disciplined vs. the run when he locates, playing contain...effort isn't a question, working through the whistle...active on stunts, rushing from different angles...strong upper body to wrap and finish tackles, playing with a consistent temperament...experienced in multiple fronts and is well-versed with various front-seven responsibilities...four-year starter (47 career starts).

WEAKNESSES: Allows his pads to rise and plays too upright off the snap...not a twitchy athlete and doesn't play with burst of change of direction skills...runs around the pocket and too often can't figure out how to penetrate the backfield - struggles to control his momentum on the move and needs to improve his movement discipline.

Not overly fluid when asked to drop and slow-footed reacting to the action...will crash inside and be washed out of plays, abandoning his responsibilities on the edges...playmaking instincts have improved, but still not where they need to be for a four-year starter...appeared constantly dinged up with numerous nagging lower body injuries to his knee and ankles...unimpressive production, averaging with only 25.0 tackles for loss and 10.0 sacks over 47 career starts...streaky off-the-field effort and had a tough time with the coaching change after the 2012 season, which affected his attitude, according to several within the program.

In Our View: When scouting Purdue's past defensive line prospects like Kawaan Short, Ryan Kerrian and Bruce Gaston, it was Russell who often grabbed the attention of scouts with his NFL size and promise. But he struggled to develop his talents the last few seasons, especially the last two years under the new coaching staff that implemented a 3-4 base scheme, which had Russell lining up all over the front-seven in a hybrid role. He is well-rounded, but also doesn't stand out in any area with the lackluster film to match. Although he looks the part, Russell is not the sum of his parts and lacks any type of "wow" factor - projected late rounder and back-up defensive end with a low NFL ceiling.

--Dane Brugler

PLAYER OVERVIEW
A two-star athlete recruit out of high school, Russell received moderate interest from schools like UTEP and Louisiana Tech, but decided to head north, committing to Purdue as a defensive end and redshirting in 2010.

He started 11 games as a true freshman in 2011 and posted 44 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, three forced fumbles and three recovered fumbles. Russell started all 13 games in 2012 as a sophomore, finishing with a career-best 8.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks, adding 37 tackles. He started 11 games as a junior in 2013 and recorded 35 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.

Russell started all 12 games as a senior in 2014 and recorded 44 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and one forced fumble. He earned an invitation to the 2015 East-West Shrine Game.

Pick 19 (236) (from Chargers)-- :starspin: OLB Mark Nzeocha Wyoming :starspin:

OVERVIEW
Went to high school in Germany at FOS Ansbach, but played club football for the Franken Knights youth team because his high school had no football team. Was a member of the German National Team who played in the 2009 Junior World Championships. Came to Wyoming as a safety/linebacker and immediately produced despite limited playing time. Recorded 32 tackles as a sophomore before exploding on the scene with 101 tackles (10 for loss) as a junior. As a senior, posted 59 tackles with two sacks, five passes defensed and two forced fumbles in just seven games before suffering a season-ending injury. Turned 25 years old on Jan. 1. His younger brother, Eric, also plays for Wyoming. Was named to the Academic All-Conference team in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Size, strength and speed numbers are outstanding. Has length and speed to throw a net over running backs trying to turn a corner and reel them in. Busts it in the weight room. Shows power in his hands and upper body to strike a blow against second-level blockers and keep himself clean. Extremely rangy playmaking ability. Agile in his scrape and generally avoids trash at his feet. Former safety who has long speed to stick with running backs out of the backfield. Transitions forward with control and is a wrap-up tackler.
WEAKNESSES
Suffered a season-ending knee injury in October and it could impact his draft standing. Played club football in Germany during his high school years and is still learning to play the game. Instincts and awareness are well below average for the college game. Can be seen sprinting back into coverage on run plays and will drift around lost in zone coverage at times. Slow to diagnose and attack. Will take a poor angle into his run fit and lose leverage. Wyoming kept coverage as basic as it could for him.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Priority free agent
SOURCES TELL US
"He has no instincts, but he will test really well when healthy. Those testing numbers should get him into somebody's camp for sure, but I don't think he can be anything but a practice squad guy for now." -- NFC scout
NFL COMPARISON
Bryan Braman
BOTTOM LINE
Nzeocha has a tremendous amount of athleticism and speed, but his instincts for the game must be developed and sharpened before he can be trusted as a full-time starter. His potential and ceiling are exciting (provided he recovers from injury), but he's the textbook definition of project. Like the Eagles' Bryan Braman, he has the length and speed to become a highly effective special-teams player.

Pick 26 (243) (from Ravens) :starspin: OT Laurence Gibson Virginia Tech :starspin:

STRENGTHS
Plays with good lateral quickness when asked to zone block. Has enough foot quickness to race to and battle for the edge in run game. Added more than 20 pounds before the 2014 season, and showed improved play strength on tape. Highly intelligent with ability to process and recognize. Does adequate job of rolling hips at contact to create leverage. Manages to seal the edge against pass rushers at the last moment and will push rushers around the arc.
WEAKNESSES
Plays with sloppy hand placement in run and pass. Lacks power to snatch and sustain blocks with consistency. Ducks head into contact, losing sight of target. Plays with some knee stiffness. Struggles to gain much ground with overly tight kick slide and finds himself behind too often. Lacks desired power in lower half as a run blocker. Too excitable and struggles to maintain body composure in space. Still lacks core strength, despite adding weight.
DRAFT PROJECTION
Round 6 or 7
SOURCES TELL US
"Really uneven college tape. He'll look like an NFL starter in one half of a game and then and undrafted free agent in the next. He's athletic, but hard to tell if he's strong enough to play in the league." - AFC offensive line coach
BOTTOM LINE
Strange combination of lateral quickness and noticeable stiffness in lower half in pass sets and in space. Gibson has the movement skills of a zone tackle, but NFL teams might look right past him on draft day if he doesn't add more functional core strength.

=====================================================

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
He has adequate foot quickness and lower body coordination to shuffle and square on the edges, showing the range to get downfield in the run game. Gibson is all over the place with his eyes and limb placement, welcoming rushers into his body and failing to properly achieve angles as a run blocker. Gibson's highlight reel is impressive, but unfortunately they came in sporadic spurts on tape and he needs time to improve his fundamentals and functional power before ready for NFL snaps - practice squad candidate with upside.

--Dane Brugler

PLAYER OVERVIEW
After a prep year at Hargrave Military Academy, Gibson was a four-star recruit and ultimately chose Virginia Tech over Clemson, redshirting in 2010. He played sparingly as a redshirt freshman and sophomore, seeing only 27 combined snaps on offense his first three seasons in Blacksburg. Gibson saw playing time as a junior in 2013 and started six games at right tackle before moving to the left side in 2014, starting all 13 games there as a senior.
