What do you grade the 2023 Draft Class after half a season of production?

1) Mazi Smith - 5 tackles (Prescott, Gallup, Tyler Smith, and Tolbert combine for 5 thus far)
2) Luke Schoonmaker - 3 catches
3) DeMarvion Overshown - IR
4) Viliami Fehoko Jr. - No Stats
5) Asim Richards -
6) Eric Scott Jr. - No Stats
6) Deuce Vaughn - 20 carries 40 yards - 2.0 ypc
7) Jalen Brooks - No Stats

Roll drum............... 2023 draft class re-grade = F

I agree...F.
This draft is trash, we don't have to wait and see or look to 2nd year leaps.

I see possible upside in Overshown n Richards.

Didn't like the Schoon pick at the time, but thought I would put faith in the scouting team.

I like the pick even less now.

Just a bizarre selection. A reach of a pick for an older prospect. We could have gone out and signed a cheap FA vet and gotten the same contribution.

For someone who supposedly tested well athletically, he looks so unathletic.

Not fast, not powerful. Just looks clunky when he runs.

They reached and it was an overcorrection for getting criticism on missing out on Kincaid in the first.

See also Kelvin Joseph when they missed out on Horn and Surtain. It's the Jones Way.

About 2 years too early to grade.
While this seems like a level-headed and completely fair take, most of the Jones apologists around here want to claim the Cowboys are the very bestest at drafting. When a player shows initial struggles the battlecry is "too early" and when they completely bust it becomes "everyone misses".

Can't lose if you can't be fired or disciplined for awful draft mistakes. It's even worse when there's an unpaid army of apologists making excuses for Jerry and Stephen.

Mazi is trending the wrong way. He's gone from "give him time" to legitimately concerning.

Schoon hasn't really got a fair shake as the #2 TE, but Ferguson's emergence means he probably won't for 2 more years. That was a dumb pick from the word go, and it isn't looking better now.

Overshown and Richards are the only two guys in this draft class that I have hope for.

I'm still okay with the Mazi pick.

They took a Big 10 trench player and finally invested in the position. It just seems he might be an underwhelming guy.

My concern over the pick was that Mazi wasn't an immediate impact guy. It signaled, once again, that our FO was not going to be aggressive enough to put us over the top.

I’ll be the first to admit it, not looking good.

I understand Mazi needing some time to develop as a raw 1-tech prospect, but when is the last time you saw a player go from grading out as the worst at his position in the entire league (per pff) to good? It does not happen. Generally the guys that are going to work out at least start flashing in their rookie year.

Schoon was just a weird pick given the needs at other positions. He has been a fine blocker, but almost completely anonymous as a receiver. I think he will be a fine role player, but for a second that is very disappointing.

Overshown was looking like a dog in preseason, so I’ve got hope for him. He may be the only starting player to come out of this class.

Richards has shown enough to make us believe he can be a nice swing tackle, which is a win for a 5th rounder.

Everyone else is probably not going to be on this team in a year or two.

That is a BAD draft no matter how you cut it and for a Cowboys team that needs the draft to constantly be producing due to their hesitancy to participate in free agency, a few more like this could be disastrous.

Right now I’m going to give this draft a D-, not an F because Overshown looks like a player but we haven’t seen him in a real game yet.

Of course, in a year or two things could change but I am not holding my breath.

Is this myth that the Dallas draft picks, in recent years, have been so much better? Maybe alittle. But when a franchise doesn't want to spend $$$ on free agents and focus on the draft to fill needs, you continue to see why this franchise has not seen a NFC Conference game this entire Century

Mazi and Schoon are going to be fine but they are just not worth their draft capital and guys at those spots, on contending teams, can't be wasted for two years developing.

He actually looked pretty decent yesterday - Mazi that is. Looked better than he has all year so maybe things are starting to click for him.

Schoon is just a wasted pick at this point. A typical Jerry special in the 2nd.

Horrible draft, but I don't know what they will do going forward. What do they really need? I would say OL and a RB, but Dallas doesn't really run the ball that much. I would like a big bruising 225 - 250LB RB and a LT. Other then that just LBs and CBs, maybe a safety?

Wideout first round! Bruiser RB would be nice.

Also Jalen Brooks finally had his breakout game right on cue! 4 catches 39 yards, which I must admit it looked pretty refreshing seeing a 6'2 wideout out there!

D- so far

Mazi = F+ so far but hes extremely young and raw at 1 Tech, so i give him two more years to revalue
Schoon = F old blocking TE with no upside
Overshown = A - Looked like a gem in preseason, unlucky he got hurt but he might be the only real starting guy from this class
Fehoko = F Wont see the field, likely cut in 1-2 years or full time PS guy
Richards = B Looks like he got upside at Swing Tackle. Might be good value
Vaughn = C While he seems lost on offense, he has been pretty good returning for a rookie. We still need to figure out how to use him on offense.
Brooks = C Did have a nice game last game but didnt see the field all year. 6'2 WR with good hands. Jury still out. Might need another year or two before we see him more.

T Hill ( DT --UCF ) was said to be "fine" also and is unemployed. No one wants him

Goes both ways. No one talks about the amazing job that was done with the 2022 draft. Produced Smith, Williams, Tolbert, Ferguson, Clark, Bland, and an undrafted Marquese Bell. That’s 5 starters. 2 Pro Bowl caliber performers. If you gonna poo poo one give the praise due on the other.
