With the roster likely stabilized (for now) it's time to look at the players belonging in that dreaded "Over 30" club.

Bryan Anger - 35
Brandin Cooks - 30
C.J. Goodwin - 34
Linval Joseph - 35
Eric Kendricks - 32
DeMarcus Lawrence - 32
Zack Martin - 33
Jordan Phillips - 31
Dak Prescott - 31
Cooper Rush - 30

Only 2 players that are 30 so I included them. The list is longer than I expected and longer than last year. I see a bunch of names that won't surprise me if they are gone next year. I don't see but a couple of names that concern me about their age. Primarily on the DL.

Correct me if Im wrong, but isnt this Zack Martin's final year of his contract? He'll be 34 by the end of this season, strong chance this is the last season we see him in a Cowboys uniform.

Well, a couple were added late in the preseason when we decided we didn't like the younger players we had as DT depth. Didn't realize that Anger was that old, but fortunately, it doesn't matter as much with punters.

I think there's a good chance of that simply because of his age vs. cost. Plus, we've got a couple of young players we like (Richards and Bass), so throw replacement in there, too. Of course, I think he may just retire. He talked about it this season.

It's not inconceivable to think that everyone on this list may not be a Cowboy in 2025.

Wouldn’t we all still like to be 30 something year old geezers? LOL.. with several mill in the bank. You could live comfortably and enjoy life as long as you don’t go crazy with jewelry, more houses and overpriced cars.

Oh well, never mind I’m still wondering how we managed to survive without cellphones, cable tv and the internet. Sorry, just my PTSD kicking in. :muttley:

Oh I expect it. Hope they got his replacement ready.
I thought Bass would be the heir apparent, but after us drafting Guyton and the way Richards played at left guard in the preseason, I think it might be Richards. I believe he is more stout than Bass. Would make some sense, Bass went undrafted for a reason. His arm length is two inches shorter than Richards and his athleticism is not considered to be that good.

Very true, pretty much all these guys will be free agents too if not all of them. Some big decisions to be made with guys that have been the franchise faces for a decade.

-Wouldn't be surprised to see Martin retire. But he's probably going to want to be a top paid guard if he stays. That would probably be cost prohibitive.
-Lawrence I think will be playing elsewhere especially if Kneeland emerges. Unless if Lawrence decides to take the big home town discount, which I'm not sure.
-Dak despite polarizing views probably has the best chance to be back.
-If Zimmer returns its possible Kendricks is back, seems like he'll be open to taking less.
-Cooks has priced himself out of everywhere he's been. However, if he doesn't have a big year I doubt he cashes in

How is D Law just 32? Feels like he’s been here a long time.
Lol it does I keep thinking he was drafted in 2010 for some reason. Him and Martin were drafted the same year, crazy that this could be both their last seasons with Dallas

Oh really I thought he got here before Martin did.

Yep you’re right.

First three picks….

Zack, Law and Hitchens….thank goodness for them because that’s the end of that draft lol.

Goodwin being 34 is crazy to me, still has the speed being the gunner?

Pretty wild right? Can’t believe he is about to hit his 7th season as a Cowboy.

That is a lot for a special teams only player.

This isn't an old team.

  • Quarterbacks aren't old until 35+
  • CJ Goodwin, Anger and Phillips aren't core players
  • Joseph and Kendricks are one-season rentals. Cowboys have 3 promising young LB on team.
  • Cooks contract ends after the season. Tolbert will fill those shoes.
The only notable age with players are: Lawrence and Martin.

Also this:

Dallas has 33 players on roster entering their first three seasons.

Affording to keep guys will be a much bigger concern than age.

Didn’t realize Goodwin was 34. Now I definitely think he has compromising pictures of Jerry to stay on the 53 for so long.
