NEW YORK — Three employees of NBC or an NBC-owned television station have now lost their jobs because of editing changes to a call made to police by George Zimmerman on the night he shot Trayvon Martin.

Lilia Luciano, an NBC News correspondent based in Miami, is no longer working at the network, spokeswoman Amy Lynn said. Her departure came as a result of an investigation into her March 20 "Today" show report on the Martin case.

Each of the reports on either "Today" or NBC's Miami station WTVJ involve editing of Zimmerman's phone call to a dispatcher that emphasizes his identification of Martin as a black male. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Fla., is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Martin, a case that has increased racial tensions.

No whining about my sources. :)

So what they're saying here then is that The Today Show, and what not, attempted to paint the shooter as a racist, who was racially profiling, by editing things to make it seem that way?

Why am I not surprised by these type of underhanded tactics in the media.

Regardless of whether or not Zimmerman was racist, the whole media's portrayal of it is a botch-job. I love when media heads get the axe :laugh2:

as far as I am concerned the only way to look at todays news media is down.

More proof you can't trust the media. There's no such thing as "fair and balanced". Everything is done to get more eyeballs which equals more ad revenue.

I don't trust the media, government, lawyers or politicians. It just gets worse and worse to the point of disgust.

Wise decision. You should probably throw 'business' in there as well.

Biased media coverage doesn't bother me. This notion that was ever a golden age of balanced news coverage is a myth. It wasn't that Walter Cronkite was a fountain of truth and facts. It's simply that Walter Cronkite was your only source.

However, manufacturing falsehoods goes beyond bias. It's reprehensible, and NBC deserves to be piled on.

It speaks volumes about our culture today and many people thinks that It's alright, that is just the way it is.

Well there use to be a time where politics and business had a line between the two......lately its more of a greay area.

I agree. It really doesn't mean that Zimmerman is innocent anyway. It just means that the media wanted to try to make that the reason he shot Trayvon. Zimmerman murdered someone, in my opinion, because he was irresponsible--not because he was racist, although I still think he thought Trayvon was doing something he wasn't doing.

In the report involving Luciano, audio of the police phone call was edited to insert a reference to Martin's race that had been made later in the conversation.

Can we get more than a vague clue here???

"We take this incident very seriously and apologize to our viewers," WTVJ said. "After conducting an extensive investigation, we are putting a more stringent editorial process in place to ensure this does not happen again."

"The truth has been withheld from NBC's own viewers now for more than one month," he said. "Do the network executives at NBC think that this is acceptable?"

compared to today he was

And he did not let his own beliefs color his reporting.

It was not until after his retirement that it became clear he was to the far left.

While he was on the job he was a Pro. To my mind the last real pro.

He also had one small news slot to fill. If people demand 24 hours a day news coverage, the quality is going to be crap. There's not enough newsworthy events. You end up with manufactured controversies to keep people's attention. I'm sure they were probably sitting around NBC trying to come up with ways to keep people watching the Trayvon Martin story even though there were no new developments.

They don't make them like Walter anymore. The media now puts a political spin on everything and you here more opinion than news. It seems like there is always an agenda behind media reporting. True news reporting has become a thing of the past. True news doesn't sell. Political drama does.

I am old enough to remember Cronkite reporting during Apollo 11 and 13. He was on hours at a time there. Same when Reagan was shot. Never any diminishing that I could remember
