5 breakout candidates for the Dallas Cowboys in 2025
Story by Mike Poland
1/26/2024

Next season is full of unknowns as we sit early in the offseason for the Dallas Cowboys. Who’s the next head coach? What players are coming back? Who will the team draft or bring in during free agency? And those questions are just the tip of the iceberg.

Here are five breakout candidates poised for a big year next season with the way the roster currently looks. If anything this will help stir some optimism into fans at this uncertain time.
  • Sam Williams
  • Marshawn Kneeland
  • Jalen Tolbert
  • Marist Liufau
  • Josh Butler

Mingo, Carson, Guyton, Mazi, and Marist will get chances to break out as well.

Who's the next HC?? Didn't we hire one a couple of days ago? as well as a DC? Who is the guy? Our whole team needs to breakout! Seriously?

We need Mingo, Carson, Guyton, Williams, Mazi, and Marist to breakout or we will be in for a long season again next season.

have we anointed the two offensive lineman yet? Bass and Hofman , breakout seasons coming if they get FT spots? have they arrived so not on the lists?

Id also add a Darkhorse, Hunter, ie a FB is used more in Shottys past offenses or did i miss something? MM departure should open some players to have improved years.. I man he looks to be a candidate for more targets inthe pass game as Hybrid TE but i also expect oiur TE production to improve..seems MM used them to fix the run game and just decided to forget they existed in the pass game.

BS offense is closer version of Garrets/turners O and they used the FB/TEs a lot more than MM did.
.

Championship!

Had to post this, have not seen it for quite a long time.

I like the looks of Butler. Performed well after ACL surgery.
Liufau shows promise.
Tolbert is quick and dependable.
Sam and Kneeland are wait and see.

I can see Kneeland stepping up next year. We'll see how hard he works in the offseason. I don't know about Sam Williams. His game is speed and coming off a knee injury I wonder if he will have that at the beginning of teh season. Plus, he has shown signs he is not real bright.

Tolbert is going into his 4th year? If he was going to break out we would have seen it already, wouldn't we?

Liufau will certainly get his chances with Overshown coming off of an injury. I can see him making big strides in 2025.

Butler? Really? Coming off an injury, and really only having 1 notable game I think that's a lot of wishful thinking.

We need Mazi to have a breakout year. There are already rumors the Cowboys are considering trading him. I would keep him one more year because it takes time for DTs to develop. But so far he has shown nothing. The bigger problem is the Cowboys do not have any experienced DTs under contract besides him. If they lose Osa to free agency they will need to do something to bolster the DT position.

We also need Beebe and Guyton to step up in 2025. That OL started to play better towards the end of the year, but Guyton was not part of that.
