Congratulations! By a startling set of coincidences you have suddenly inherited the reigns of the most successful professional sports operation in the USA. Your next moves determine the fate of the sport. What would you…

#1 - The owners want you to pick one streaming app for NFL games. All offers are the same. Who do you go with?

#2 - You are asked to pick two expansion cities that do not currently have NFL Teams. One for AFC, one for NFC. Who do you pick?

#3 - Salary cap. 3 options.... 1) Keep as is, 2) Adjust to NBA cap with more exceptions for veteran contracts and players already on the roster, 3) Adjust to MLB model with few restrictions. The owners want you to decide the course. Which model do you go with?

#4 - You are asked to change one significant rule to improve the game. Which one do you pick and what do you do?

#5 - You are asked to pick 3 current or past players/coaches who the NFL will put all its marketing might behind the next 5 years. These 3 people will be the face of the NFL. Who do you pick?

Looks like people had fun with the 5 Questions Billionaire thread, so here’s a new one….

My answers….

#1 Amazon Prime. The Walmart of the E-commerce world. Can’t go wrong with that many users.

#2 San Antonio, TX Or Austin, TX. Same concept as Jacksonville. Next largest metroplex in a Football State.….. next would be Honolulu, Hawaii. Travel would be a you know what, but I guarantee you they would have a loyal fanbase.

#3 As a Cowboys fan, I have to go with the MLB model. Dynasties, get ready! :muttley:

#4 Probably insert the XFL Return rule that Coach Bones raves about.

#5 Ray Lewis, Michael Irvin and LT. If nothing else, hours of entertainment.

  1. Apple TV+
  2. San Antonio, TX (AFC). Birmingham, AL (NFC)
  3. "What is Major League Baseball's Competitive Balance Tax for $1000, Alex."
  4. NFL catch rule. Delete the 'make a football move' component. With a bazooka. (Referees are too subjective in determining what a receiver actually does)
  5. Drew Pearson, Peyton Manning, Cameron Jordan

1. I would have said Prime but for some reason their Thursday Night coverage makes me cringe. I would go with Netflix.
2. I would drag my feet indefinitely because I think the NFL has enough teams.
3. The owners would never give me the authority to determine how much money they will have to spend, but I would go with the baseball model.
4. I would end the QB slide rule. If the QB runs, then he is a RB and has to take whatever a RB has to take.
5. Peyton Manning, Patrick Mahomes, Deion Sanders

I like the 'no slide rule' with all the running QBs now. You want to run all the time, you get to face the same punishment everyone else does! :muttley:

1. I'd develop my own app as a replacement for NFL Network.
2. Frankfurt and London. Both in AFC East. Id move 1 AFC team to the NFC. (I understand that studies have been done into this option after NFL concluded the logistics work better with 2 x european teams.)
3. Keep as is.
4. More wr/db contact, make passing more difficult.
5. ??

Nah, keep the NFL purely American. There's a huge fanbase over here, but a european NFL team just wouldn't feel right.

But since the almighty Dollar (or Euro in that case) always wins, I guess we'll go there sooner or later. Bummer.

You do understand that there's nothing QB-specific about the slide rule, right? Anybody can slide to give themselves up and avoid being tackled, not just QBs.

It's just that QBs do it way more commonly than anyone else. But you see other players do it too, like guys sliding to avoid going OOB (or to avoid scoring) at the end of a game, or defenders giving themselves up after a game-icing interception.

1- Netflix

2- St. Louis & San Diego

3- Baseball

4- The ground can make a fumble.

5- Micah Parsons- Justin Herbert- Tom Brady

I refuse to narrow it down to just one app, and insist that we allow up to 4 different ones to stream the games.

#2 - You are asked to pick two expansion cities that do not currently have NFL Teams. One for AFC, one for NFC. Who do you pick?
Omaha, Nebraska (NFC)
Mexico City, Mexico (AFC)

None of the above. I create a quarterbacks' salary cap to stop teams from overpaying quarterbacks while underpaying linemen.

#4 - You are asked to change one significant rule to improve the game. Which one do you pick and what do you do?
Repeal the 1978 "illegal contact" rule that unfairly handicaps games in favor of the offense. From this point on, a defender may rough up a receiver all he wants, as long as he doesn't hold or commit a personal foul (like facemask) until the ball is in the air. The rule returns to how it was prior to 1978.

#5 - You are asked to pick 3 current or past players/coaches who the NFL will put all its marketing might behind the next 5 years. These 3 people will be the face of the NFL. Who do you pick?
Terry Bradshaw
Tony Romo
Herm Edwards

Mexico City, Mexico (AFC)
Interesting locations. Mexico City definitely more practical than London and Europe for travel. Just would need a lot of security. Omaha is an interesting choice. Convert all those college football fans to pro fans in an underrated city.

1. I'd develop my own app as a replacement for NFL Network.
Good call. Why bother being attached to anyone when you can cut the middle man and the brand is big enough to supports its own app. This is just for bleeps and giggles so who knows, but I bet they do make more money though with the bid wars in other medias and apps, versus their own app.

1. Netflix. Why give Bezos and Apple more market share?
2. St. Louis NFC .& Toronto AFC
3. Keep the salary cap the same. Parity is good for the game. I would like to see injury exemptions.
4. I like the XFL kickoff. It makes the return game viable again.
5. JJ Watt, Larry Fitzgerald, Peyton Manning if we’re going retired guys.

I want to change #4- scrap the defenseless receiver rule.

#1 I'd give it to who over pays the most for the rights
#2 Mexico City and London
#3 Keep it as is so we don't have super teams like the NBA
#4 End the "if the team with the ball fumbles it out the end zone it's automatically the other teams ball and at the 25. That's by far the most severe penalty
#5 Deion Sanders, Mike Vick, Brady
