Today, October 15th, marks the 60th anniversary of the great Bob Hayes winning the 100 meter sprint gold medal in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic games, He made that historic race in borrowed spikes because he had lost one of his shoes a few hours before the race. Watching the old films of that race, Bullet Bob left everyone in the dust.

To this day, Bob Hayes is the only man in sports history to have won an Olympic gold medal and a Super Bowl ring. And he and the great Jim Thorpe are the only athletes to ever be inducted in both the Olympic Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Bob Hayes was not only a great Dallas Cowboy, he’s considered one of the greatest athletes of all time. Most lists of the Top 100 athletes of all time include Hayes.

Hayes was my first Cowboys hero as a little kid, and I’m lucky enough to have seen Bullet Bob play for the Cowboys in person in both the Cotton Bowl and later Texas Stadium. To this day, he’s the most electric and exciting individual player I’ve ever seen.

His Olympic Performances set Him Apart considering how he did this.Cinder Track,Terrible Lane Assignment due to it being chopped up by the Walking Event.Did not matter. He was on a different level. Then add in his Anchor Leg in the 4 X 100 which is the most incredible sprinting ever done in Olympic History- an 8.5 100 Meter Run from last place to get the Gold Medal.

One of the competitors was trying to needle the U.S. 4X100 Team before the Final and said " The only guy You have is Bob Hayes."

After he flew by the field he walked by them and said "All we Needed!"

Even Ussain Bolt couldn't match that. He's second fastest all time in the same category.

The Bullet was really a football player with amazing speed, whereas some are track athletes trying to play football.

In my time of HS football, many teams would have their fastest player donning the number 22 jersey. You knew they were fast. Inspired by the great Bob Hayes. RIP :starspin:
