I am surprised it's that low. When we had to run the ads for the change to digital antenna TV delivery, I didn't realize it but 18% of American homes were not wired to cable or sat services.

I think there are also quite a few not using the internet while wearing their Reynolds aluminum protective headgear.

Honestly surprised its that low.
I have seemingly every device and service in the book, but I can see where it would not remotely be “necessary” for many millions

I could not survive withour internet. Period. My only souce of contact and knowlege about the outside world as well as entertainment.
Yep, hate to admit it but I am inescapably attached to it. The last time mine went out, I just stood in the middle of the living room and wept. After spending 5 minutes trying to contact the company online to complain.

I think there are many that are accessing the net via their phones without having accessing via wire or dish.

But I do think there is a respectfully sized portion of folks who only use the net for email and some sort of social connection like Facebook. They still do not buy via the web or spend any more time on the net than what they need to.

Me as well this past winter when it went out for a day. I'm homebound with no TV so it really is my only connection, entertainment source, etc. Without it I stare at the wall.

Yeah, my first thought was, "I wonder how many of those people don't realize they're using the internet."

I hope it was an online survey!

When my power went out, I happily ignored my phone and went without internet for 48 hours. I do that camping anyway.

People need to learn to unplug on occasion and reassess what's important. The internet is a tool. It's not life.

It would be interesting to see some of these internet junkies forced to take a week off from the net. Probably worse than going cold turkey from heroin addiction.

I try now and then to just read a book or go for a walk and try and remember that the internet is not surgically implanted.

Back in the day when we would lose internet at work, I would make a joke about the oxygen supply being cut off
because the way people would freak out.

My power went out for 6 hours just a couple weeks ago, and I found myself sitting at my desk reaching for the mouse several times. I've never been so bored in all my life. I don't really realize how much time I spend reading forums, reading news, playing games, etc until it's gone.

If the power had been on at least I could have read or watched TV or vacuumed. But still, it was eye opening.

I think a lot of these people use the internet without knowing.

If you asked my father, who is in his 80s, if he uses the internet, he'd instantly say no. To him using the internet means looking at pages on a browser or doing online shopping.

But he is connected - he has broadband. There are several devices or appliances in his house that are connected. He watches things "on TV" via his broadband etc.
