Round 1

-Alot of smoke about WR's. They have 3 WR's projected as 1st rounders in for visits. Mouthpeice Mike Fisher has also been floating alot of trades for WR's. I wouldn't put any stock into the actual trades, but they could be using that to get fans into the idea of a Traylen Burks or Chris Olave in the 1st

- Jordan Davis could be a name to watch if he falls. Broaddus said they were interested even before the combine, and thats not something Im going to be dismissive about

-Dont count on an edge player in the 1st. 0 first round prospects brought in for a visit

- OG still seemes to be the most likely pick. Every Non Mock Simulator I have done has "Conner McGovern Sucks" in every round

Round 2

- I think Sam Williams is a strong possibility at 56. People want him in the 3rd, but you cant expect a pass rusher capable of double digit sacks to fall that far. Even with character issues. This is around the same draft slot as Frank Clark

- If they go OL in round 1, they could look at WR in round 2. If Watson is still on the board, I think he would be someone they are high on.

- If Raimann falls here, I think they would have a hard time passing. He'd be great value here. Dont overthink his age here, he'll be a very good player

Round 3

- This is where TE becomes a real possibility based on who they have brought in. Dont sleep on Woods this high. I believe his RAS was the highest for a TE ever

-Perrion Winfrey could be the obligatory 3rd round DT

- They didnt bring any in for visits, but they showed interest in day 2 caliber HB's. I wouldn't rule that out in 3rd if a guy like Spiller or Walker are still there. Follow the money: Pollard is going into the last year of his rookie deal and we can get out of Elliotts deal next offseason.

- Cam Jurgens is a name to remember here

Round 4

-Some spill over with HB here.

-Same with TE. Amoung their official visits, Ruckert will be gone, and Woods could be. However this could be a spot for Otton.

- They have done well taking non money positions here under McClay. LB's, HB, TE.

- Im not high on Myjai Sanders, but this could be a good spot for him. You are basically hoping for a rotational end drafting one in the 4th, and thats what I think he is. He should be able to add weight, and could be a good 4th end. I think Armstrong's 2021 is probably good outcome for him, and really thats the best you can expect from a 4th round DE's. Guys like Max Crosby are an anomaly

Round 5

-Just take Cade York here and be done with it. A round early? Probably but who cares. York will be kicking for you for a decade

- A good round to gamble on fallers. I could see Jalen Wydermyer getting a look here.

- This could also be a place where you can get some value at non money positions like HB and LB

- Their official visits had some late round DB's and DE. Whether or not a guy in that list, this could be where they start throwing darts there.

- This round could be rich with "Could develop into starter" type OC's. I can see one getting taken here if they dont take Jurgens earlier

Round 6/7

- Some spill over with DB's/DE's. I think you could see them throw some darts in one of these rounds as well

- I dont see Wydermyer lasting to the 7th, but if they pass on him in the 5th I can see him being taken as a "value" guy in the 6th.

- I could see a WR here. They had alot of late rounders in for Dallas Day. Could see one of them going here

Nice Writeup, some of my comments:

Rd 1-many fans are in disbelief that the Cowboys are looking at 1st rd receivers, it's not a smokescreen, it's a reality. Agree, Guard is still the favorite, but not if one of those top receivers fall.

Rd 2-agree. This appears earmarked for Sam Williams. His true value probably in the 70 range and won't be there at 88.

Rd 3-agree. All those 30 visitors are more 3rd rd prospects. they can hope one slides, but probably need to pull the trigger.

Rd 4-6 You would think WR, Center, LB would be their top priorities on day 3.

I think Williams character issues would have to be very bad from him to be there at our 3rd rounder. He is a bit dimensional and may always be, but pass rushers are currency in the NFL. And I think he puts heat on the QB as soon as he walks in the door.

I do wonder why they haven't brought in other notable rushers. Could be that they are set on Williams at 56, and know other teams probably wont take him in the 2nd

They also did bring in the Cincy DE Sanders who is probably more of a 3rd rd pick. I really think that 2nd rd pick is going to be allocated for the defense, unless a top flight receiver is too good to pass or if they don't draft a guard in rd 1.

Sanders is hard for me too call. I think he is a guy you take in the 4th because Im not that high on him. I see him as a rotational player that may be your 4th DE when his rookie deal expires. However, I can see teams valuing him more than that

Just saying he is another Edge in that 3rd rd range that they brought in. Their 30 visit list was very strange this yr, where I think two things, some linked were actually dallas day prospects and others were priority fa's who they would like to get to know.

Ya you get a sense of what they are looking for early, but day 3 is a real guessing game. Even more so than in the past. They have had some success recently with 6th round WR's and DB's (Ced Wilson, Anthony Brown, Don Wilson, can throw Woods in there too)

Day 3 is always a crapshoot anyways, good thing is they have many chances to hit on a player or two if not more.

I think you hit on a lot of my beliefs here. If I had to leg their draft picks today, I think it would be:
  1. OG Kenyon Green. They haven’t even tried to hide it.
  2. EDGE Sam Williams. Their interest is again obvious and he won’t be there at 88.
  3. I’m split here. I think if a good receiver is still here, they’ll go that way, otherwise I think it’s TE Jelani Woods.

Love the write up much more useful then a mock:

1st agree - most likely Johnson or Green, think all three WRs that we brought in will be gone. I’m having nightmares thinking they will gamble for Smith or Raimann. Think the only position surprise pick will be if a edge falls.

2nd - to me this is the interesting spot. Wouldn’t mind a small trade up to target a specific player. I would like a WR here but not sure if any of the top 10 would slip into the 40s. Might be to early for the others if we stay at 56 but I do like Tolbert. I don’t believe they take the edge here. Again, this to me is find the player that has slipped into the 40s and go get him.

3rd - In my opinion Williams and Sanders are the 3rd round target, maybe again using one of the 5th to move up.

4th - this is the TE spot. I don’t have a feel which one will be there but I think this is the round they target that position. I love Ruckert but not sure if he will be available.

5th - Please take a kicker with one of them. One of my favorite trades that Dallas made was for Quinn 3 years ago. Would love for them to do something similar. Jacksonville has a couple of players that would be good rebuilding projects.
Chaisonn and Shenault. Do like the idea of an RB here- Strong seems strong out of the Dakota.

6th - Think this is where they are targeting one of Dallas day/ 30 visits that most think will be la late pick or undrafted priority free agent.

It will be interesting to see who they have higher Green or Johnson. I think Green is the better player. Johnson is kind of a phone booth guy. He is good at it, however I think they may favor some who can pull. Green can probably do that better.

Honestly I think can afford to punt on WR in this draft. They are thin, yes, but there are still alot of vet contributors on the market and they have ample cap space for a 1 year deal.

However I think they may feel the need to draft a TE more given Shultz is on a tag and they have no long term solutions other than him. At WR, they have both Lamb and Gallup under contract for the next few years. Its odd the WR's they brought in are either 1st rounders or late rounders (Dallas Day guys). Couple be the 1st rounders are more of a flirtation

Trading up in the 2nd worked well with Lawrence. At the time they had said "He was the last guy we had with legit pass rush traits" or something to that effect. They went up and got there guy. Alot of people at the time thought they should have stayed and taken Kony Elay. Ya that would have ment we take Trai Turner in the 3rd, but Elay was a failure. Id take Lawrence over Elay and Turner any day of the week

Think they are higher on Greene as well. He is younger with the ability to play tackle maybe in a couple of years.

Jerry Jones stated at the senior bowl that they are looking for positional flex and ability to play in any blocking scheme along the OL. This suggests Green is probably top Guard on their board and won't be drafting Linderbaum.

I think it's more likely that Zion can play OC than Green at OT in the NFL.

Unless the OL and DL boards are completely wiped, I am going to laugh my *** off if we take a WR at 24.

Would be the cherry on top of this **** offseason.

This draft will be remembered for stud LB's, Elite Safety's, and a tremendous 1 - tech that could have been had if not for the self inflicted wounds created by the F.O.

Good thread

To me it is pretty clear that this FO should learn that beyond the first round they grade players a round low and they telegraph their interest very plainly so when they wait for the player he is either gone a round earlier or someone traded up before them to get him. It is also important to understand that quality should be the focus in the top 4 rounds and not quantity.

therefore

Rd 1. Pick OG rd 1: Green or Zion.
Rd 2. Really a great place to pick Travis Jones and solve DT but I would use a pick to trade up to mid rd 2 and do it
Rd 3. Pick Ruckert or Woods whoever is available or higher graded
Rd 4: there are some Centers as you pointed out
Rd 5: LB here

rest BPA

Really address some need areas with quality players rather than slop

Both are best at Guard, but they can play other positions if major injuries take place. Neither will be a fish out of water if they had to flip sides, play tackle for a game nor start at center. Linderbaum is more center and zone scheme only.

As for Williams this will be the second year in a row when we all had another Williams penciled in Milton and Philly took him right before we could. Hopefully we get this one.
