I enjoyed the game very much and overall was of course very happy with the days events but ...
... after last weeks horrible 2 point conv attempt by BP I'm hypersensitive to things I would designate as examples of bad coaching.
With this in mind the time management at the end of the first half was putrid.
I didn't like the running play up around the 40 that resulted in our first timeout. But more importantly why didn't we call a timeout on the play that got us to about the 10 with 24 seconds left.
Romo almost bails Tuna out with the TD throw that gets called back ... but that play gets started with only 8 seconds remaining. We should have had 3 shots at the endzone there instead of one. I was at the bar and couldn't hear the game but the tv showed us having 1 timeout left. Even if that graphic was incorrect I question all the run calls especially the one up by the 40 that caused us to burn the first timeout.
There are a few dead give aways to me that signal obvious bad coaching decisions.
Bad clock management that result in poorly used timeouts, the incorrect usage of the 2 pt conversion, and an overabundance of penalties are perfect illustrations of this. I don't want this to be confused with a "let's get rid of BP" thread ... it's not.
I like Tuna and want him to stick around until he gets another ring for both himself and us. But one of the things that is in theory supposed to be good about having an older coach is that they don't have to "think" about decisions. They just react to scenarios that they've seen a thousand times before.
My question is simply this ...
Why is our legendary coach making questionable coaching decisions of late? Are they honest mistakes that he won't repeat ... maybe a little rust on a well aged wheel that just needed grinding off. Or maybe just maybe he has his autopilot set to a frequency thats a little off-kilter.
I for one am hoping he takes the autopilot off for a bit and starts thinking through his coaching decisions again ... for his sake and ours.
