There have been a lot of threads and comments talking about contracts and I can only assume there will be more over the next few weeks (at least). I want to post the last 3 big contracts that the Cowboys have put together and clear some things up.

I personally think that whoever put together the Zeke and Jaylon contract did a great job. The Cowboys have a way out of these contracts without really getting buried.

Let’s take a look:

Zeke:
6yr/$90 million
Agent: Rocky Arceneaux

2020 cap hit: $10.9m
2020 dead money: $25.8m

2021 cap hit: $13.7m
2021 dead money: $14.9m

2022 cap hit: $16.5m
2022 dead money: $10.8m

2023 cap hit: $15m
2023 dead money: 6.7m

2024 cap hit: 12.6m
2024 dead money: 2.6m (not a big hit at all - they could opt to cut him after the 2023 season if he sucks, so this contract is really a 4 year contract if we’re being honest)

2025 cap hit: $15.4m
No dead money

2026: $16.6m
No dead money

I love this contract and here’s a link to check out for a lot more details: https://www.___GET_REAL_URL___/s/co...down-jerry-jones-todd-gurley-comparisons/amp/

Jaylon Smith:
6yr/$68m
Agent: Doug Henderickson

2020 cap hit: $7.8m
2020 dead money: $23.9m

2021 cap hit: $9.8m
2021 dead money: $9.4m

2022 cap hit: $11.8m
2022 dead money: $6.8m

2023 cap hit: $13.6m
2023 dead money: $4.2m

2024 cap hit: $12.6m
2024 dead money: $1.6m (so the Cowboys have an out after 2023 if he sucks - so like Zeke he really has 4 years left unless he’s really good)

2025 cap hit: $12.35
No dead money

Now for the one that really doesn’t make a lot of sense compared to the structure of the other two. At the time he was regarded as the top DE in the NFL, coming off of two great seasons...I don’t want to get into his 2019 production because #1 I think he was hurt for a lot of the season and #2 he faced a lot of double teams. I’m just kinda puzzled at the structure of this deal.

Demarcus Lawrence:
5yr/$105m
Agent: David Canter

2020 cap hit: $21.9m
2020 dead money: $36.9m

2021 cap hit: $22m
2021 dead money: $15m

2022 cap hit: $24m
2022 dead money: $10m

2023 cap hit: $26m
2023 dead money: 5m

So that’s the 3 contracts that a lot of people like to talk about. My personal opinion is they did great with Zeke and Jaylon, but the DLaw contract looks like it was done by a completely different team or something. Nevertheless, I anticipate Todd France, the Titans, and Ryan Tannehill just drove up the price on Dak. Dak has the same agent as Tannehill, so I see him getting $37/$38m a year realistically.

PS- I hate Todd France. This team will be screwed if we have to tag Dak.

But can we get 4 more years out of Zeke? I’ll be happy with 3....
Average shelf life of a RB is roughly 6-7 years, and I think Zeke is built more like a FB so I think he’ll be fine for another 4 (at least we better hope he is lol)

Literally every bid contract has this structure. Always an out after 3 years. Literally. Every. Deal.

Signing a RB 2 years before they had to is never a “great job.” That was a bad job of letting a player with no leverage control the situation
