Question why is it that if the saints were to franchise Bentley they would have to pay him top 5 salaries of any OL position?

I don't think Seattle will let him go. Expect them to use the frachise tag if an agreement can't be reached.

I'm sure owners would prefer it be the center position because a team would be nuts to franchise a C or G if they had to pay them OT salaries which are definitely higher.

I'm almost sure that it is position specific in regards to the franchise tag. He could slip away if Alexander is paid like he wants to be paid, but like some of the others in this thread....I doubt he leaves. Nice replacement for Larry Allen, huh?

Bentley and Hutchinson will be frachised. Mike Williams balloned up to 360 lbs which is why he lost his RT job to an undrafted free agent named Jason Peters. Williams would have to drop at least 20 pounds to be agile enought to play tackle. Not sure about giving him the signing bonus he would want to play for us.
