I think I paid $499 for my 10" Zhumell dobsonian. Not including extra eye pieces and / or filters. Dobsonians are relatively cheap compared to 10" telescopes of other types which can be several thousand bucks.

The problem with dobsonians is they are fully manual (no star tracking) and they are big. The good thing about them is that they are truly deep space telescopes and easy to use.

This is a picture of the exact telescope (brand and size) I have.

Since you can't compare it to anything, I will just let you know it's about 4 1/2 feet tall. It's pretty big and between the base and the tube itself, it weight probably 60-70lbs. Moving it isn't hard, but it isn't grab and go either.

If you aren't a hard core star gazer, I would recommend something like a Meade ETX-80. It doesn't view deep space objects (galaxies, nova, etc), but you can see lots of planets and stars. It will give you a great view of the moon too. That telescope is a grab and go telescope and is great for a stargazing newbie. It cost about $230 and it isn't garbage that you would get at a department store or somewhere like that.

I love when it's a Full Moon...so beautiful.

Love looking at it with mt Telescope too.

Thanks. I'm actually wanting to get a telescope. The coolest class I ever took in college was the astronomy lab. Those telescopes were so expensive. I could nerd out and look at stars/planets/aliens all night. I want to take a decent telescope out to North Dakota the next time I go. It's insane how dark it gets out in the country. Stars galore.
