A mid-round TE target

Kolar looks like a 4th-5th round type of player to me. His size will play in the pros, but he is a really one-note athlete. There is no burst to his game, and he gears down hard every time he has to break. To me, he looks like a TE2 goal line type of player. He can run for the back of the end zone and high-point a pass, but he's too easily covered by a linebacker in the base offense.

Wydermeyer looks more fun... he is similarly sized to Kolar, but is built thicker and has some legit bust and wiggle to separate. Very good athlete for his size. He plays at 6'5" 260, and I'd almost want to see him play in the 240s just to see how explosive he'd be at that lighter weight. He blocks in-line frequently and also lines up in the slot, which is a really nice preview of his usage in the pros. Between that experience and his measurables, he looks like a low-risk high-floor kind of player. I'd take him in the 2nd.

Thanks for the work and posting this but that guy is slow as molasses. I dont see how he is different than what we have

Throw NDSU Noah Gindorff on the table. Knee injury cut season short. But a good 7th round, free agent prospect after the injury.

6'6", 270,
Ndsu blocking a given.
Invited to East West Shrine even with injury

Edit....see he is planning to return to school 2022

NDSU is becoming like a poor man’s Boise State in terms of putting out some respectable NFL prospects.

I like him. Worse case scenario another Jarwin. He’s bigger than he looks. I was guessing 240-250 but weighs out at 260.

If we are trying to mange our cap I think we have to let Schultz walk. I don’t think what he brings to the passing game would be hard to replace with a mid-round TE. His blocking and decision making is a negative that has to be fixed.

He’s a “pretty good” player that’s likely going to be paid a premium contract his play/ability doesn’t justify.

Agreed. There are usually a few decent free agent vets every year at this position too. Let Schultz go get his payday somewhere else.
