"To me, it seems like often cheating is an attempt to be excited in a life that's boring. If you do something exciting for a living, like being an army helicopter pilot, you'd never cheat on your hot wife. And your wife would be hot because, well, your a freakin' helicopter pilot. And she wouldn't cheat because, well, she's married to a freakin' pilot. Quit the accounting gig and go to flight school!"

People cheat because it's human nature to want to rub your genitals with other people's genitals. It's biology. Everybody wants to bang other humans, it's just some people don't do it because it's not right by their personal code.

I work in what most would consider a boring finance/accounting job, and have a hot wife, but I would never cheat on her out of respect for what we have together. Her feelings and our relationship are far more important to me than hitting some strange. :laugh2:

Get real. Fighter pilots and helicopter pilots cheat on their spouses probably even more than the ordinary person. Remember the Tailhook scandal years ago. And there is a whole lot of shaking going on in those tents in Iraq and Afghanistan these days from what I've been hearing. And I've seen helicopter pilots' wives and fighter pilots' wives and thay ain't all that hot. Back to watching Top Gun and dreaming life was like that in reality for you.

I dunno. One of my college buddies is flying Apaches in Afghanistan at the moment and his wife is pretty damn hot.

One of my first thoughts is the guy might be hiding something and he's hoping his wife buys the line.

Then why is he cheating on her. :laugh2:

Some people cheat, some people don't. They come from all walks of life. Infidelity cross a broad spectrum of people. So does monogamy.

I disagree, this is animal nature.

This is human nature.

IMO, infidelity is one of the most selfish and irresponsible things a person can do. If you're going to start sleeping around, break off the current relationship first.

This is human nature.

We will have to disagree there. Humans are animals, and when I see a fine woman my unconscious instinct is to go cave man on her.

The second part is my own code, not inherent human nature. If I was raised differently or I was just more selfish like many are, I'd cheat. I don't, but it's not out of some natural decency, it's because of my developed values.

Cheating is showing weakness and a lack of self control. It is not biological. The urge to reproduce has been dulled over the last few millenia to the point where it is not much of a factor anymore.

Now it has been established that after traumatic events and the like; or with something like that coming, people will tend to feel the urge to procreate. So there is some evidence to support the contention that fighter pilots and the like in a combat zone probably will stray more than most will due to stress factors. But once again its a weakness of spirit and discipline and nothing else.

This is the way I've always seen it. If you want to cheat with someone, then your current relationship isn't what you want. Have some class and get out of it first.

No, the second part is human nature. Well, most human nature. There are the uncivilized who have no moral code but what you essentially described is the ability to empathize.

That's what makes humans different animals. We can think beyond ourselves. Animals cannot. They can respond to visual cues such as when a dog tries to comfort an upset owner but the dog has no idea why its owner is mad. Similarly, an animal may comfort another injured animal but that animal cannot place itself into the injured animal's shoes and produce an emotional response as though the positions is theirs in the first place.

That's what we do. We can think outside of ourselves and place ourselves into another's position and feel as though that position is our very own. We can put the well being of others before our selfish needs and in extreme cases we give our own lives for others, including complete strangers.

This is a nice post, but you're not going to convince me that just being born a human makes me not cheat on my wife. I developed values over the course of my life, and part of those values is not to sleep with other women outside of my relationship. Caring more about someone else's feelings than one's own base instincts is not something we're born with. If it was, you wouldn't have so many people willing to cheat on their partners.

So is not finding middle ground with your partner so that both parties needs are met.

Read a story the other day about a women who discovered her husband was cheating on her. She praised him for what a wonderful husband he was to her (cheating aside). It made me wonder what he would say of her? Again, not justifying his actions, but there is more to being "faithful" than abstaining from sex with others.
