Last Christmas, I anonymously adopted 2 young boys from an impoverished family in a nearby town to make sure they had a good holiday season.

Afterwards, I decided to take it further and bought them easter and bday gifts along with back to school clothes.

All this is done through a local ministry. I know nothing about them but their first name and they know nothing about me.

Most of us know people who live in poverty or know someone who does. We can all make a difference in a child's life. All it takes is to adopt one or two children and see to it they know there are people who know nothing about them that care.

Yep it counts for a lot. We do the same thing every Christmas through the local Catholic Church. The church gives us the name of a family usually from an impoverished background and we buy gifts for both the girl and boy. You tell the church what you would like to do as far as do you prefer a boy or a girl or a brother and sister etc and then you have at it. I always enjoyed buying toys and still do so its all good.

My wife and I support a child in Ecuador and we write back and forth with each other every month. He really wants to come to America to visit us and my wife and I are trying to make that happen. It's awesome getting his letters. Nothing purer than a child's heart

When I was still married, we used to travel to the Caribbean often. We would occasionally bring a local impoverished family with us so they could experience a nice destination vacation. Though we (now I) haven't done that in several years.

Now that I have a live in GF who has several friends who are financially strapped. I can see this starting back up again.
