A silly question

I know many of you understand the intricacies of the game more than I do as you grew up with football, whereas I grew up with hockey.

Therefore I ask, why are Defensive tackles inside guys whereas offensive tackles outside guys? Is it some historical anomaly?

the ends on the offense are the wr's.the tackles are not actually outside, the wr's, or t.e. depending on the formation.thats why it's a penalty if no one is not on the oline next to the tackles.but that is a neat question
