Will a lost in Philly signal Wade can't win the big divisional games on the road?
I know losing in Philly doesn't end the Cowboys season. The truth of the matter coach Wade has to prove to his players and fans he can coach his players up for the big stage games on the road.

Don't know about a lost but a loss won't help matters. A close loss probably won't hurt much. A huge loss will.

I'm pretty sure Wade Phillips won a divisional game on the road against Washington last year to basically save our season. And he's .500 in divisional road games since he's been here.

So there's probably another angle to look at.

Eh, the re-match in December will probably have a lot more meaning. No need to put all our eggs into Sunday night's game.

Actually, being .500 in divisional road games is considered a great success by NFL league standards. Let's give Phillips credit where credit is due, as in this case.

That's what I was doing, for once.

Agreed. I would love for a Cowboys win, and I think they pull it off, but the second game will be more important. Even if they lose, there will still be plenty of games left to offset that loss.

I agree to a certain extent, bbg. However, the outcome of this game will raise the implications of the December match up by a notch or ten.

We aren't going to win the division this week and we aren't going to lose the division this week, but a loss at this point would loom a little larger than the win simply because an 0-2 start in the division leaves quite an uphill battle for the title at the end of the season and the looming, "dreaded" December.

(Though I do admit with the way this team is playing, right now, I have a feeling that the infamous December melt-downs may find another team this year)

I think they should take a loss hard but not so hard they are discouraged. It's just not a must win. They had better play their *** off.

He's already won in Philly, in New York, and in Washington.

So why does he need to prove he can win on the road?

Wade has already won big, divisional games on the road. As someone has already said... the win at FedEx last year was sorely needed even though the Commanders are a dead team walking and were last year too.

He won in 2007 at the Meadowlands to complete a sweep of that year's eventual super bowl champion. He also won at Philly by a large margin (38-17) in 2007 (the Witten helmentless game).

Not to mention he won the huge matchup of two 10-1 teams playing in week 12 of the season (Green Bay in Dallas).

Even last year, he took his team to (again) the eventual super bowl champs house in Pittsburgh and had a badly beaten up team ready to play in 15 degree weather... even though he was down to the third string RB, his pro-bowl TE was gimpy as hell, his QB was still recovering from a broken finger on his throwing hand, the whole team was a study in poor chemistry and his primary receiving weapon was unable to beat anyone not in a 49er uniform. Dallas very well could have won that game. Had the defense not allowed a lucky bomb to Santonio Holmes, Romo wouldn't even have been in the situation where he threw the game clinching INT. They were thisclose to taking Pitt out in their stadium, in their weather, with their fans waving those damn rags.

Phillips did his job.

Not to mention beating up the Giants in last season's second game against them... a game Dallas had to have. He had them fired up and ready to play, even though there was a LOT going against him (see the Steeler game above).

No, I'd say that Phillips has proven he can coach in a big game.

win or lose i just want to see this team perform consistantly at a hight level.

Excellent post, **. I really don't know where the perception that Wade can't motivate this team comes from. The Cowboys have won several big games under Wade. You mentioned a bunch of them. Hell, the game against Atlanta was big until the Cowboys won. Now the Falcons aren't so good. Whatever. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Cowboys win at Philly Sunday night. And if they're honest with themselves, neither would the naysayers.

I think a win is very valuable for Wade the rest of the year, just like a win is v ery valuable for the team the rest of the year.
