Ok I’ve gotten a lot more involved in this off topic forum. I’ve told things about health, travel etc but thought a thread to get to know each other more would be good. Some may not want to..get it. Anonymous is good. I’m on a forum..more on that..where people have posted photos..but I’m not asking that. Just things to let people here feel like family.

I turn 50 Soon. I’m a kid playing 50. Married with 3 kids. Been an attorney for 23 years but hate it. Grew up in FW, went to TCU, law school in Houston and lived in Chicago and now Southlake. Cowboys fan since 75 or 76 so Pitt rival days. Played football, basketball and baseball in HS. Almost died at 30 from a flu bug..viral myocarditis..attacked heart, afib, lowered ejection fraction, enlarged it etc. At that time I worked out 6 days a week snd was in great shape. Fluke Survived snd recovered completely but still went to a fib once a year. 8 years later almost died again when a doc pierced my heart with a catheter trying to fix the afib. Had to cut me open and save me. My wife was pregnant with our 2nd. Told her I might be brain dead. Recovered and nothing wrong. Didn’t fix it. Love travel, golf and my wife and kids. Maybe not in that order. Married late at 35 Still trying to figure “what I want to do in life.” Strange side hobby and message board I visit is for colognes. Yes colognes. I always liked them but in 2008 I did a search for something new and it was a deep dive into way more than I expected. Pretty cool little hobby despite me not having the funds that many of the collectors and hoarders have. But I learned a lot.

Anyways. There are some things. Love the board and think it’s a fun adventure. Share as little or much as you want

This place is incredible. It's a family.

I'm 55. BA from Texas State in English, taught school for a couple years, worked for the govt for 3, hated it. I'm just not made to work in illogical systems.

Started mowing lawns for extra cash, and have now built it into a decent little business.

46, CTO for a medium size manufacturing / E-Commerce company.

My hobbies are cyclical to keep things fresh, but here are the ones I practice:
  • Playing guitar (I'm actually building a guitar now using Stew Mac & Warmoth parts)
  • Playing Chess
  • Tinker with (fixing / building) electronics
  • Winemaking
  • I'm a licensed amateur radio operator
  • I like to write (software develop) old Text based MUD games.
  • Woodworking
  • I occasionally play games. (more so now since my father retired. He likes to play and it allows us to spend time together since we live in different parts of the country)
  • Insult sparing with anyone who will participate without getting all bent out of shape. (CBZ help let me practice this hobby, since I'm basically a home-body. Thank you to all my victims here at CBZ!)
I dropped out of high school in the 9th grade. (I had / have a propensity to sleep when I'm bored!) I did get my GED though. I've been in IT since around 1994 I believe when I went to work for one of the earliest pure ISP or Internet Service Providers. (pure meaning, that it only sold Internet access. ie, not AOL, Comcast, etc that do more than just Internet)

Born and breed Texan. I was traveling to NY on business about once a month. I was complaining to someone I knew who lived in NY about my career felt like it was getting stale. She said, if you can make in NY, you can make it anywhere. I moved to NY three months later. (back in 2005) Been here ever since.

I miss a lot about Texas, but I enjoy living up here too. Especially now that I moved out into the rolling hills and wilderness of Connecticut rather than the concrete jungle that is NYC.

Hey Dad, mom wants to know when you're getting around to mowing the back yard.

I like the idea of this thread but....how do I say this...I would be a fascinating research project on the human mind. I’ll have to be very careful with what I say so I don’t have people knocking on my door with a straight jacket in hand.

I’ll give the vanilla bio of me when I think about what to say.

I get this completely. I didn’t want to put too much where people could get too personal with me but thought it would be nice if people knew a little about who they might be debating/talking to vs a screen name

Lol, I’m not on FB nor have I ever been, this site is as social media as I get. I’ve said enough here in bits and pieces that if people put it together they would have a decent idea about me minus a few “darker” aspects. I’m very honest and rather open compared to most.

Why do you hate being an attorney? Sometimes I lament that I didn't make that my career choice. I work in IT. Being a lawyer looks like it would be an intellectual challenge and it would be possible to help people. Is it not like that?

What brings happiness is different for each person.

I think most people would like to do work that helps people I would think, but what exact work that is can be the difference from loving your job to hating it. While I'm not a lawyer, I would think the type of work I was doing would really matter. I would have no interest in traffic or small criminal stuff or even family law. (I would REALLY hate family law) Though corporate law (depending I suppose), government law, and big criminal cases, might be a hell of a lot more interesting.

I personally thrive on challenging work. Building or finding solutions to problems. My father on the other hand preferred monotonous work. In the Navy he fixed all types of aircraft. In his post Naval retirement, he built fighter jets. He much preferred to build jets than to fix them because he likes to know what he is going to do each day, not the guessing game of what is wrong with this thing and have to go digging to figure it out.

I’ll try to make this short but it’s hard to but here it goes....

I grew up youngest of 5 thinking lawyer or doc was way to go. I like to talk and hate blood so easy decision. It was my goal. I enjoyed law school. More the social aspect but loved it. It was college but 23-26 yr olds with a cause. You have people in all phases...some are gunners asking questions and wanting law review, others like me that did good but enjoyed life too and others who did it with no post college plans and failed.

Not finishing in the first group mentioned means you start scratching it out after the bar. I took litigation jobs. Personally I hated it. It’s not Ally McBeal, LA Law etc where you make inane arguments to weird judges and then go to happy hour . It’s grunt work. Every phone call is contentious to see who wins the biggest a## award. I did mostly insurance defense but had some plaintiffs work that would be me trying to be good to my clients while 12 young defense attys got on record disparaging my clients to look good to their bosses. I can’t do much but object to form of the question..but I would..and they’d be peeved I was ruining their easy depo and then they’d invite me for a beer. Some can separate this...I couldn’t and just wanted to tell them off.

I don’t know many co attorneys that love it or even like it. I’ve moved to mellower things but still not good. Problem is you can’t just say “I want to go in house” because everyone does and you need corporate experience. In fact you can’t just go to other areas of law unless you have some experience. It’s sucks you in because you need it to pay loans etc and no one ever thinks an attorney would leave law. I hate looking back in regret because it would start a chain where my wife and kids wouldn’t be in my life but law was a bad decision to start. I’m a people guy. I like being a good guy. I just felt/feel stressed and uneasy in the job. It’s not what I call fulfilling. The only guys I know that like are ones that treat it like sport and want blood. They think it’s fun

A person living in the future and the past at same time. That’s about it. Oh and harassed by cops and crooks same time too!!! Rather a lot like Billy the Kid in Young Guns, without all the shooting of course, but very much as crazy and laughing.
“Hey Peppin...I see ya got Charlie Crawford down there with you.....”yeah...” ..Hey Peppin! ..Charlie Crawford’s not with you anymore. Looool “

Same here. This is as social media as I intend to get. Anyone who gives a crap already knows I'm a misanthropic truck driver/artist, living in CT, and I have a penchant for Asian women.

That's one of the few things that keeps me behind the wheel: No 2 days are exactly alike....A lot of them suck, but in different ways.

:lmao: I wasn’t aware of the artist part or Asian women! Very nice, I’m a sucker for art. Anytime I go to an art show my wife knows we’re about to be financially set back quite a bit. Sure, I could have spent my money more wisely but I have zero regrets on every piece I’ve bought and you couldn’t put a price tag on the joy they bring me every day (with the exception of a couple :)).
