So I need to furnish my new apartment but I don't really want to go to the expensive furniture places. Is there a place like rooms to go where the furniture isn't crap? I'm not sure if I can trust Roomstogo or Roomstore's furniture. If you have this type of furniture and it's held up well...please let me know.

Well i like Nebraska furniture mart, but not sure they're available where you are, or if they ship. It's nfm.com though.

There's always IKEA. It's cheap and it will get you through until you can buy some real furniture.

Rooms to Go will hold up, but its 80% tacky ugly crap.

I prefer Crate and Barrel. Although, some may consider it pricey.

I remember when I got out of college, I used a matress on the floor with no bed frame and cardboard boxes for coffee tables and end tables. I had my clothes in suitcases. Six months later I finally bought a dining room table and a Lazy Boy chair.

Craigslist has some great deals on furniture if you look. That is wher I would buy if you are looking to save money.

Salvation Army. I got a sweet couch set for $150.

This store is the primary reason I hate going to the mall with the wife. :laugh2:

Roomstore furniture is actually not that bad. My friend furnished her whole house from there. She's had it for almost seven years.

I bought a captains bed from Roomstore to use in the spare bdrm several years ago and I've had no issues with it. The bed's held up well with all sizes sleeping on it.

Of the affordable furniture places, I'd say Roomstore and Roomstogo are pretty good options for your base furniture set, especially since you're not trying to go the super expensive furniture route.

Oh and I agree with VC that you can find some decent deals at the Salvation Army and Goodwill stores, too. I swung by the Goodwill store and saw some pretty good TVs there at an extremely cheap price.

You might see if you can find an unfinished furniture store. Years ago I got some very heavy, high quality pieces for half or a third of what they'd cost at most stores... Actually it's hard to even compare because these are better quality than what you find at most furniture stores.

You do have to stain it and finish it yourself, but that's actually kind of fun, and you can make it the exact color you want.

Like some others said, though, to get a really good deal you should probably buy used. Nothing wrong with that.

Rooms to go actually has 100% wood furniture except for some children's selections...

Craigslist. No question. I bought a $3k Broyhill guest bedroom set for $400 bucks. I bought a $5k Norwood couch with a small stain for $300 (cost $300 to get it back to new condition).

If you want to go to a store, I recommend North Carolina Furniture Direct. Bought a REALLY nice master suite from them for a reasonable price...

Funny you ask. The wife and I bought a small dining room table with four chairs from Rooms To Go just a couple of weeks back. We really like the styling and it is well put together. Very happy with the purchase.

We also bought a few other nice pieces heavily discounted at a furniture outlet store (a local family owned store). Maybe Austin has something similar?
