Nearly every Alaskan will soon be receiving a check for $1,654, their share of the state's oil riches, Gov. Sarah Palin announced today. 3:30 p.m. AKST

i need to move to alaska, how often do they receive that check?

Just once each year. Next year's should be one of the largest ever. Some are expecing over 2k or so.

Its pretty neat because everyone gets it who has lived here for like a year.

can i have a house up there like a cottage or something and get a cut? even though im not there year round ;)

The only problem with that is... you have to live in Alaska to get it.

Not worth it, IMHO.

It certainly is not for everyone. The money folks make here is why most live here.

I think it does have to be the primary residence. They don't audit you or anything to prove it.

From ask.yahoo.com

"Remember, you need to spend 12 months in Alaska in order to qualify for the dividend -- that's about 8 months of winter, more or less, before the pay-off. Then again, you can stock up on a lot of cold-weather gear for $1749 (the amount of the 1999 dividend check)"

Also if I remember right from when I was there last, there is no sales tax in Alaska.

Some towns have a small sales tax. The state and Anchorage do not.

That 20k dollar car only costs 20k here.

No doubt. YOu could make some big money up there. I almost moved up there a few years ago to go work on one of those ocean oil thingies (no idea what they're called). My aunt was dating someone that was gonna get me the job. I ended up going to college instead (should of gone to alaska though).

It's not even the weather I dislike, I actually like cold weather. It's just, there's nothing to do up there but drink, hunt, and fish. lol

It would be a nice place for retirement though, that's what my grandparents did.

No offense to Dallas (the poster, not the city) but the women there aren't anything to write home about either.

THere are some hotties there, but the ratio of whales to hotties is incredibly high. And by "Whales" I mean "Very large women".

Oil Platforms. Yes - those guy's make a lot of money working on them. My pops has been in the oil business since I was a little kid. It is the only reason we moved here in 1980.

The platformers average about 26-30$ an hour. Heck of a job tho. You have to ride a chopper to and from work each week. It is usually a 2 hour flight.

Talk about pucker factor.

Haha - It really is not like that anymore. I have met and dated and even married a hottie in my time here.

Back in the late 70's and 80's the ratio was a bit high. Guys to gals.

Now - freakin everybody and his sister is moving here. I hate it. The city housing market is through the roof and you can't build a home because ALL the R2 lots have been all developed. Land in or outside the city is about 80k-100k an acre. It's unreal. People KEEP coming tho and I can't figure out why. There aren't that many jobs here. I mean there are but still.

Guys to girls tho. It's about par here as it is other places as far as girls to guy.

Course we got some walruses floating around to. Just like some other cities.

THAR SHE BLOWS !!
