Alaska plane crash: All 11 on board rescued by U.S. Coast Guard

Not to get away from the awesome fact that everyone survived, but this article exemplifies the lack of professionalism in the media today.

The first line starts, "Yesterday, in absolute crap weather...."

Now, I wouldn't be at all bothered if someone on the street relayed this story to me, but to actually write the word "crap" in a news story is ....well, crap.

It will get worse from now on sadly to say

Walter Cronkite once said, "We are on the precipice of being so ignorant that our Democracy is threatened."

Sounds like he was right, by the read of that article. I have to agree with you on that Rwb.

He probably had the choice to not fly until the storm was over.

A few years ago we had a plane crash with a small plane taking hunters to an island to hunt ... they crashed and all on-board died. I knew the brother of one of the deceased, he said "the passengers pressured the pilot to fly in bad weather", so they could get hunting...now they are all in the happy hunting grounds, unfortunately. So yes, these pilots sometimes take risk they shouldn't ... makes me wonder if he was pressured. Still an amazing job landing that bird.

As a truck driver, my company can pressure me all they want to drive in poor conditions, but ultimately, it's my decision, and they can't do a thing about it if I refuse to drive, due to weather.
Now, if it's borderline, I'll start the trip and see how it goes, so I get the pressure point of view to an extent.

If I was a pilot ... no amount of pressure could get me to fly if I was uncomfortable. It's good that you proceed with caution. Here where I live our highways are carnage ally. A trucker from Alberta was just charge with 16 counts of dangerous driving causing death. He blew through a stop sign and collided with a bus full of young hockey players heading to a game. Another driver this week pled guilty to the same charges when he failed to stop for cars stopped at an accident scene and killed a mother and young boy. It's constant. Our truckers can drive 13 hour days. We need better regulations...

Here, I'm allowed 14 hours on duty, 11 driving, with a mandatory half hour off duty before any continual 8 hours on duty.
