The Red Sox clear out a ton of salary.

Maybe make a run at Josh Hamilton.

I would think Boston is going to weary of giving another large contact to an oft injured OF.

Good old fashioned salary dump, all dead wood except Gonzales, without him they could not get rid of the other three.

That's about the size of it... And he's outstanding.

I think this is a great move by Boston, they arent going to dump salaries and stay pat, you know they will invest a lot of that money right back into the team next season. Hopefully a bit more wisely.

The Crawford signing was bad from the get-go.

Crawford didn't have good power, didn't have a good OBP (he didn't draw walks) and his game was pretty much his legs, i.e. the guy could run.

He didn't fit that stadium and he was on the wrong side of 30.

I think they signed him strictly to keep him from the Yankees, whom I don't think had any interest.

Beckett will do just fine in the NL West. Hopefully Billingsley will not go on the DL and Beckett can replace Joe Blanton who has been a bust so far. Gonzales will be one of the best 1st baseman in the NL (second to Votto). Huge move for the Dodgers and gives them a massive line up.

Boston did not have Victorino, Kemp, Either and Hanley Ramirez. Adrian Gonzalez is going to fit into that lineup very well.

Doesn't matter..they just unloaded a crapload of bad contracts

Did you think LA would take on all those bad contracts without getting anything in return? gonz is the key piece to the deal

MAJOR WIN for Boston

Major win for Boston? So because of bad contracts your discounting the talent that the Dodgers are acquiring? I think it is a great trade for both clubs personally. Like I said before. Don't discount Beckett. I like him a lot better in the NL West then as a AL East pitcher.

I'm not saying its a win for Boston vs a loss for LA

I'm saying that this deal is a huge win the sox...

I agree Beckett will be a big addition..he should kill the NL west.

But boston just got out of a disastrous situation in one felt swoop...that's impressive...I hate the sox, but it is what it is...like somebody else said, you know all that money is going right back into the team..that's the way to do it..have to call it like I see it

$250M in cap relief. The Redsox just sent a clear message to their players. The party is over. The players no longer run the show in Boston.

It's a huge win for Boston IF they can transform all that salary space into something useful.

The upcoming free agent class isn't exciting outside of a few players. Maybe they'll give the Rangers a race for Josh Hamilton.

And Adrian Gonzalez is a terrific hitter and outstanding fielder. He'll be difficult to replace.

Dodgers Lineup For Tonight
Shane Victorino LF
Mark Ellis 2B
Matt Kemp CF
Adrian Gonzalez 1B
Hanley Ramirez SS
Andre Ethier RF
Luis Cruz 3B
A.J. Ellis C
Clayton Kershaw SP

That is beastly! Bottom line the Dodgers have two series left against the Giants. If the Dodgers wet the bed and fail to win their division and go deep into the playoffs this year and fail to to win a World Series within the next two years this trade will have some of it's shine rubbed off for the Dodgers.

The Red Sox got old and finally after 2 seasons of old guys not being able to stay healthy they realized they needed to make a move. Battling for last place as if they are the Orioles caused them to do something drastic.

And yes it does send a message to the beer drinkin fried chickin eatin bunch :lmao2:
