I use the iPad Kindle application exclusively for reading. Last night, I updated the application and noticed that the link to the Amazon Kindle Store had been removed from within the app, which is very convenient. I know Apple's primary duty is to turn a profit but this does rub me the wrong way. I just bought my iPad a few weeks ago and I am starting to wonder if I should have went with an Android based tablet, like I originally was going to do.

Computerworld - Amazon today bowed to Apple's newest App Store rules, and removed a link in its iPhone and iPad Kindle apps that took customers directly to its online store.

The move was required to comply with new rules designed to block developers from evading the 30% cut that Apple takes from in-app purchases.

In February, Apple CEO Steve Jobs laid down the law.

"Our philosophy is simple -- when Apple brings a new subscriber to the app, Apple earns a 30% share," said Jobs in a statement released Feb. 15. "When the publisher brings an existing or new subscriber to the app, the publisher keeps 100% and Apple earns nothing."

The more companies try to force people to do things their way, the more people will despise them for it. Eventually, that will turn into outright hatred. Look no further than Microsoft.

You can get a rooted/flashed android tablet for 1/3 of the price of an iPad.

I use Google books because it's easy to also click on a book real quick in Chrome if I have some down time sitting in front of a computer and want to read.

Having to go to the web to buy a new book is pretty annoying, but it's not THAT difficult to do. Just bookmark amazon.com in your iPhone's web browser, search for a book and click purchase the Kindle edition. It'll then download to your Kindle app. Personally, I think this way of finding books is more satisfying because you can see other types of results and suggesting books, etc., on the full website.

No, it is not hard to navigate to the website. It is "more" convenient to be able to launch it from the application.
