So in honor of that I recorded The Cowboys and showed it to my twelve year old son.

It is one of my favorite John Wayne westerns

Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant ____ to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was
Simple and plain
Mother ____ him and John Wayne

anyways.

Interesting fact about John Wayne. He was so vocal about his opposition to Communism that Joseph Stalin even ordered his assassination.

makes Saturdays easy viewing for me

Pilgrim

"I haven't lost my temper in 40 years; but, Pilgrim, you caused a lot of trouble this morning; might have got somebody killed; and somebody oughta belt you in the mouth. But I won't. I won't. The hell I won't!"
- John Wayne - To Leo Gordon in McLintock!

Every Saturday this month is all John Wayne movies. I think it is a great idea.

I don't know why those guys wanted sexual relations with Elvis and John Wayne, but if you want to discuss the exploration of alternative lifestyles and the pioneers of said movement in the rap community then you should start another thread.

Westerns...I will never understand the fascination. Nor do I care to.

he had a great career but damn the man had no range in his acting

He was primarily a character actor -- arguably the best that ever lived. For that, he deserves his accolades.

He didn't have great range. I've heard people say he basically played himself. Clay O'Brien Cooper, who worked with him as a child actor in two movies, said he was the same guy on and off the screen. Just the clothes were different.

But he was an iconic figure who oozed charisma. People talk about someone having that "it." Well, he had that in abundance.

He was an American symbol for a lot of us ... which is even more impressive than being a great actor.

I don't know about no range; in the Searchers and Wake of the Red Witch and Red River he displayed an anger and almost viciousness that was very interesting.

He certainly was not a method actor; most of whom frankly bore me.

One thing to remember about the Duke; unlike actors most everywhere else where they had a side no one saw (mainly bad) what you saw with John Wayne off screen and on screen was the same. That has been said about hundreds of actors and actresses who have worked with him over the years. Maureen O' Hara said it this way "There never was a person I trusted more."
