Parents here can be put in jail if their child has too many absences. Doesn't happen often, but the truancy courts are littered with kids who are put on probation, etc. for missing school.

I've actually been appointed to defend some of those cases. Seems a little odd to me, because it happens in the middle of the school day... the kids are told to be at court when they should be at school. And you already know these kids miss enough school. But I don't know when else you would do it.

Had one where the kid didn't show up for multiple hearings just like school I guess. They put a warrant out for mom's arrest.

I would do. My wife's a principal, and it's exactly this kind of attitude that unravels educational quality when it infects a staff.

It's tough, because the teachers are definitely right about the attitude of parents and kids, but it's not good when your staff is so openly disrespectful of the families.
