If you want to read my full first-half analysis/breakdown of the offensive line vs. Denver. This is strictly Isaac Alarcon's time at left tackle, which started with 10:39 left in the fourth quarter.

First drive

1st-and-10 Dallas 5 -- Quick screen to right (Alarcon fires out on a DT, pivots in front of him and keeps him from going right)

2nd-and-3 Dallas 12 -- Run up middle (Alarcon locks DE out of play to left)

1st-and-10 Dallas 18 -- Run off right tackle (Alarcon cuts of DT, gets around him and walls him out of play)

2nd-and-2 Dallas 26 -- Run up middle (DE tries to go around Alarcon, so he carries him upfield and out of the play)

1st-and-10 Dallas 28 -- DiNucci runs on roll out to right (DE tries to bull Alarcon and goes nowhere, but may have been playing contain on run-fake to that side)

2nd-and-5 Dallas 33 -- Pass over middle (OLB in five-man front drops, so Alarcon picks up DT trying to come around LG and doesn't have to do too much to keep him from going any farther)

1st-and-10 Dallas 42 -- Incomplete, but pass interference (DE tries to go around Alarcon, but he pushes him past the QB and doesn't allow him to get that close)

1st-and-10 Denver 46 -- Incomplete (Bull rush by DE pushes Alarcon back into DiNucci, but quick pass so ball is already out)

2nd-and-10 Denver 46 -- Run up middle (Alarcon stalemates DE to outside; not much of an effort to get off block by DE)

3rd-and-4 Denver 40 -- Screen to right (Alarcon didn't get in front of the DT this time, but was able to keep enough of him to not let him chase the screen)

1st-and-10 Denver 35 -- Incomplete (DE tries to use a jab step and slap to get around Alarcon, but it doesn't work and the ball is out quickly anyway)

2nd-and-10 Denver 35 -- Offsides, but completed pass to right (Alarcon reacts to blitzer coming across early and gets a jump on his set; DE tries to take outside anyway and goes nowhere)

1st-and-10 Denver 23 -- Rollout and screen to right (Alarcon bumped DT then let him go; that appeared to be his only job because he didn't move upfield to try to block for the screen)

1st and 10 Denver 13 -- QB scramble to right (Alarcon and Farniok double DT and stop him at line of scrimmage)

2nd-and-4 Denver 7 -- Incomplete (Alarcon initially was in position to stop DE, but he fought off Alarcon's hands and got by him enough to get some pressure on QB, who got more pressure from the other side)

3rd-and-4 Denver 7 -- False start

3rd-and-9 Denver 12 -- Incomplete bubble screen left (blockers slanting right and Alarcon helped double a DT, essentially just being there to pick him up when the G effectively stopped him)

4th-and-9 Denver 19 -- Touchdown pass (DE tries spin move to inside and Alarcon just pushes him that way to take him right of pocket)

A few observations:

1) I watched the Dallas telecast originally, but the Denver telecast on the computer for the breakdown. Denver was terrible about doing sideline interviews and then cutting to the play right when the ball was snapped.

2) We ran a lot of plays to the right side or middle (very few to the left, even earlier in the game) and Denver's DL didn't seem to be trying very hard to pursue those plays from the backside, particularly making the run-blocking easier for the LTs.

3) Alarcon's one bad rep on his first drive, the pressure on DiNucci, might not have been that bad if Aviante Collins hadn't completely lost control of his man. DiNucci could have normally stepped up since Alarcon still had his block some.

4) Only a couple of times did the Denver rushers really seem to challenge Alarcon with anything other than a straight speed rush to the outside. However, when they did throw something different at him, a hesitation or a spin, he handled it well, except on the one pressure.

5) It's late so that may be all I have time for.

Wow, thanks for the effort!

I enjoyed reading your breakdown, it definitely gives a little hope he may turn into a player. I understand it's preseason, 3rd stringers, and whatever else will be said in your thread. But there's nothing wrong with rooting for a young man to earn a chance at his dream. And in turn, help the Cowboys.

I don't remember reading much about him from practices, either good or bad.

I swear the guy is serviceable or maybe even a legit starter and better than McG or even Williams last year. For some reason, the coaching staff, Philbin or MM do not trust him or take him as a serious player. He has vastly improved the last couple years. I almost hope he gets cut soon as he has to be counted on the roster and he goes somewhere where he is given a legit shot to play and with great OL coach. The guy is only 24.

I think it had more to do with the fact that they could keep him as an extra practice squad player because of the pathway program rules. That gave them time to develop him. If they didn't see something they liked, they probably wouldn't have kept him around.

Looks like an overall favorable review ?

Yes. I do think the level of competition was a factor. The DEs and DTs he faced didn't show a lot of moves or even a lot of effort at times. But he can only play the players they put in front of him, and he mostly handled that really well. I'd probably try to up the level of competition he faces this week by bringing him in earlier then maybe going back to ball later (maybe have Ball play the first quarter, Alarcon the second the third and Ball the fourth, or reverse that on the third and fourth quarters).

This is encouraging news, we need a decent swing tackle in the worse way with Tyrone's injury history.

The dude went up against second and third stringers. He still has a long way to go, with a short time to get there. With that said, he'll probably be an ALL PRO once he lands on another team, because the coaching on this team is flat out horrible!

Not sure he even faced second-stringers. Probably third- and fourth-stringers.

yet if Ball played well against the same talent level we’d be talking about how he’s ready to start.

He needs to play in 2nd half!

Idk why Ball started in front of him, front office needs to let the draft status go on this one.
