Breivik, dressed in a dark suit and tie, had a slight smile on his face as the decision was given.
He was sentenced to the maximum possible term of 21 years and was ordered to serve a minimum of 10 years in prison. The time he has already spent in prison counts toward the term.

That is pathetic; less then 4 months for every person he killed if he even served the 21.

There are no words really I can add to the sad state of that countries so called justice system.

Never thought I would see one worse then ours for coddling violent criminals

From the article:
The sentence could be extended, potentially indefinitely, in the future if he is considered still to pose a threat to society. Norway does not have the death penalty

I have a feeling they'll extend it indefinitely, especially considering he claims to be sane and does not regret his crimes.

Exactly and all the experts opinion is that he will spend the remainder of his days in jail.

He will probably never go free. But with that said, that is why the death penalty is good idea. Now the state has to care for him for the rest of his natural days.

The cost isn't that much, the jail cell, guards, heat, light, doctors etc are there regardless, so all that it is really costing is his food and a jumpsuit.

"It's been an amazingly difficult process. It's been a constant, constant reminder of why we have to fight extremism in every way possible," he said of the trial.
"We have to make sure nothing like this ever happens again."

"And the best way to ensure this never happens again is to let the assailant go free after a few years of wrist slapping."

And for some reason, Norway's handling of it is being viewed as some sort of great thing...

Oslo district court and the Norwegian justice system are to be congratulated on the way they conducted the trial of the worst killer in the country's history.

I think it's safe to say, when you catch someone in the act, you're really just wasting time and money by going through the motions, instead of simply punishing him outright. Debating the why's and wherefore's of such an obviously atrocious act is an exercise in futility.

We see it playing out with Jared Loughner as well. Tackled with the weapon after killing people? Why bother with anything else but the place to enact the punishment?

a "forvaring" sentence means they can keep him locked up for as long as they deem him a threat to society. 21 years is the minimum he will serve.

It is basically a life sentence

Don't bother. They're having too much fun calling your legal system soft. It's a popular pastime amongst people from Texas. ;) They do it with other state systems here too.

It is soft

This is maximum security here where ABB will be staying

Some of the lower security prisons are better then a lot of hotels

We used to have a big problem up north with Russians coming across the border and drunk driving around the police station parking lots to be put in jail here since not only was the standard of living in our prisons comparable to freedom at home in some cases it was even better and not only that they also got payed more for being in prison here then they would working in Russia

Go to youtube and search for "Bastøy" or "Halden" prisons

Why would we even need a Bubba when we have names like Balder and Thor?

let's be honest here if you have to go to prison and get that list of names and you're told to pick a cell mate and have nothing but names to go on you're going to Bubba every time
