Andy Reid denies internal rift in Philadelphia
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 5, 2010 6:56 PM ET
In a surprisingly entertaining interview with WIP Monday, Eagles coach Andy Reid took umbrage with the notion that there were internal arguments about getting rid of Donovan McNabb.

"There was absolutely no debate," Reid said. "There was never a point where we weren't on same page here. This is what we all felt was right for the Philadelphia Eagles."

Jason Cole of Yahoo! painted a different picture, one in which team president Joe Banner and new G.M. Howie Roseman essentially wanted McNabb out while Reid wanted to keep McNabb. Banner's rising influence versus Reid was also a subject of a recent piece by Michael Silver.

Reid was unusually animated in the interview, lavishing praise on Banner and Roseman. Reid has done a ton of media in the last 24 hours -- which we appreciate -- and the intent could be to present a unified front.

Reid said he wasn't concerned about the Commanders knowing his system. "I'll send them the playbook," he said.

He also took issue with the ridiculous theories the Eagles tried to steal headlines from the headlines.

"It couldn't wait. . . . With these deals, that have taken time coming to a head, and then there is an opportune time, you got to step on it! Or it is over. . . . You've got to have a feel for when that time is. It just happened to come Easter Sunday," Reid said.

"It just happened it was before the opening day for the Phillies, and Tiger Woods . . . and the NCAA Finals. I'd like to tell you I'm good enough to plan it that way." (Tiger who?)

The interview concluded with host Howard Eskin admitting that Reid had "big ones" to trade McNabb in the division.

"Are you talking about my stomach, Howard?" Reid asked.

Edit: Re-read the article and still confused.

Creating Media splashes is more of a Commanders thing not an eagles thing.

There is no doubt in my mind if Andy had the ultimate choice he would have kept McNabb. But I have no proof to back that up.

absolutely this. at the same time, i don't think that means there is a huge internal riff brewing. I think it means that for once andy didn't get his way.

I doubt anyone felt all warm and fuzzy over trading McNabb. And I'd bet money Reid had the hardest time with it. Doesn't mean they all didn't agree to get that high two for a player they no longer had to have.

I believe every word of that. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if Banner and Roseman eventually decide to push Reid out as HC.
