I plan on asking my podiatrist this on monday but thought someone on here might know.

I have an injury to the lower joint (inside my foot) on the toe next to my big toe. My podiatrist said the only option besides toughing it out would be to have them go in and scrape away the newly formed cartilage and scar tissue, and then reshape the bone. This is the most conservative surgical option, others are a replacement joint and removing the joint completely (think Dez's finger).

What I forgot to ask was this: Is this a surgery that can be done with a local anesthetic/ laughing gas, or would I need to be put under?

Anyone have this done or know anything about foot joint cleanup surgery?

Probably not a local. Could do regional but my guess is light anesthesia just bag you thru it. Preop sedation then induce with milk of amnesia then light drip along with some gas and no intubation.

I would think they would put you in a twilight like what jobberone described, not all the way under but enough you don't care or asleep but not to the full level.

They also could probably do a spinal block where you don't feel anything from the waist down, and you could be partially awake.

I think now with all the "minimally invasive" surgery techniques they use it might not even hurt that bad.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to see if I can live my life without doing anything to it but if I notice it hindering my day-to-day life then I'm going to have to suck it up and get the surgery done.

Would not not give adequate anesthesia if conscious sedation used on this procedure.
They'll most likely use a posterior tibial nerve block and IV Versed.
