The No. 56 overall pick of the 2017 draft, Melifonwu was limited to just five rookie appearances by knee and hip injuries. The hip issue lingered all offseason. He was sent to visit a specialist for a "lower-body injury" last week, presumably related to his hip. Melifonwu will be exposed to waivers but likely pass through unclaimed, reverting to injured reserve. If he gets healthy, it's possible he will be released with an injury settlement.
