I learned online as well, with the help from others. There are enough resourses online to teach you. It's trial and error

I'm self taught.

That said, I'm a hack..and still don't know how to use the program.

I think it's a matter of how far a person wants to go with this stuff.

I think a combination of formal training (even a tutorial DVD) and trial and error is the way to go.

And...beyond that...the most important thing is to learn how to teach one's eyes to see in a creative way. The rest is all semantics after that. How a person creates the vision is secondary.

It's a pretty user-friendly program to just play around with.

I haven't kept up with the newer versions/filters special effects and all that. I taught myself how to use it back in the 90s with the help of a tutorial book I bought.

If you want a few places to start... I'd suggest:

** practicing with layers
** getting good with the "Lasso" tool to "cut out" images
** experimenting with different filters

Others here with much more skill than I might have other suggestions as well.
