Any given Sunday Fallacy

Yes, any team can beat any other team BUT not on any Sunday. There are probable matchups that are leveraged/exploited every given Sunday. No, I do not believe outcomes are predetermined. I believe that the probability of winning differs from team to team vs certain opponents. I believe that making the playoffs as the 1 or 2 seed yields a better probability of winning in the postseason. I believe true contenders make it to the conference championship game.

Winning against teams such as San Francisco or Philadelphia should excite a Cowboys’ fans more than winning against the Patriots (sans Brady). Winning in the playoffs against the best teams with the highest amount of pressure should excite any Cowboys’ fan more than success in the regular season. Let’s see how these next 4 games go. Would be a different message from the team to go 4-0. Would be more of the same to go 2-2 or 3-1. Would be scary if they did worse.

Any given Sunday says nothing more than an underdog has a chance.

Are the odds against them? Sure. That’s not a revelation.

Anyone who says any given Sunday is some type of magic that makes an underdog a favorite are silly.

Tell that to the Cardinals last Sunday.
That kinda proves it's not a fallacy.

Any Given Sunday just simply means that all NFL teams are comprised of the best players on Earth. Every roster is filled with world class athletes. They can beat you for a number of reasons even if there are roster imbalances. This gets proven every year, multiple times per year. If it didn't the word "upset" would have no meaning in football.

Like I said. Any team can beat another team. Just not on any Sunday. The two teams could play again 100 times and the Cowboys might win 100 times. Just based on probabilities.

If every team had equal chances, you would not see much if any disparity in team records. You also would not see statistical evidence pointing to teams with higher seeding winning the bulk of championships. Hence the fallacy. Saying a team has a chance at winning a given game sounds like saying they have equal chance-they do not.

How many times do the Giants end the Patriots undefeated season in the SB. Jets are given the Chiefs fits right now and might have a chance to win if the refs weren't involved. These are all paid super star athletes on each team.

Normally, the Eagles win today would have EATEN ME UP and ruined my day....however, our showing last Sunday solidified my belief that we aren't taking things seriously again this year....and that we still have the wrong HC and QB to go "next level"....Philly or SF would have taken care of business last week and put AZ out of their misery by halftime. We will 100% be a Wildcard, and that is where the season will end...sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

the niners held a one score lead going into the 4th, didn't exactly put them out of their misery by halftime. philly has struggled with every team they've faced (other than the bucs) including the patriots who we just curb stomped. if you want to keep telling yourself these things over and over to protect your feelings from potential disappointment, that's fine. feelings are not facts though.

These people keep bragging about how the 49ers put away the Cardinals lol….the gsme was far closer than putting them away at halftime.

Philly and the 49ers have not had 1 win like the 3 that the Cowboys have.

Put your hand up if you thougth CJ would be the best looking QB of his draft class at this point? Put your hand up if you thought the Texans would look like a playoff contender after 4 weeks? This may have nothing to do with any given Sunday, but this is also along the lines of expect the unexpected.

And to be fair to our Cowboys loss to the Cards, put your hand up if you actually thought they would compete with, let alone almost downright be in contention to beat the 9ers? Our loss to them is becoming a blip on the radar as there is no way the 9ers took them for granted, yet struggled to come up with the W

And after we beat SF Sunday night, what will the reasons be that SF lost the game and we did not win it?

Most Everyone saying SF will kill us. What if they win by 1 point. We will have the moral victory posts, or if we lose by 14, we will have the gloating posts as some want us to lose, so they can be right and post about it.

But if we win, will the SF lovers on here finally give Dallas credit?

Look it's very simple.

If you're a professional football team, your entire roster is stocked with the top X < 1% of athletes who specialize in the sport.

If your team doesn't play well or is not in the mood to play: they can and likely will be beaten by another team that might not have quite the same talent level but still field a team in that same stratosphere of ability.

You are talking razor thin margins that over a full season can be seen that separate those clubs, but you don't get visibility too that level of separation until a sample size is increased.

Bottom line- if you don't play well you can be beaten by the NFL team in front of you that day.

No, they just don't root for the team but chance to feel powerful through the investment of nothing but satisfaction of their own vanities. And that isn't inclusive of a discussion as well. A desire to be bullies at no cost what so ever to themselves...over the internet.

I worry more about playing fins than niners. If we made it to the SB then that maybe who we are playing. And fins are playing well.

My general point was that some wins are more exciting because the level of competition is much higher. It also shows that the team can do it. There are no major injuries that I know of for SF.

Winning on prime time in SF in a game that could matter regarding home field advantage and the team’s psychological confidence is different than beating teams that will likely not even make the playoffs.

I’m recognizing their high level of play and the fact that they have humbled the team I cheer for in the biggest game of their season twice in a row. This game does not matter as much as the playoffs, but still would represent their biggest win in many seasons. Championship teams beat other actual contenders. SF has made the final four two seasons in a row and qualify as a true contender at this point.
