I'm looking for a history topic to write from 1600-1865.

Anyone know if doing the cotton gin or effects on why the Civil War people would grant me enough resources to hit 8+ pages? I'm not all too familiar with these times so I'm not really sure what to write about that's interesting and I can find enough resources on.

Hmm. Are there some criteria restrictions? Cause if there isn't, there are books that are several hundred pages that exist about a myriad of topics in this history range.

American history alone could produce hundreds of books each several hundreds of pages. That doesn't even include topics from other countries.

How about you look at the American Presidents? Or America's forefathers like Ben Franklin? Not enough? French and Indian War, Continental Army or about about the fifty black slaves are hanged in Charleston after plans for another revolt were revealed. Don't want American history, how about King George II ascends the to the throne in 1727?

There is so much history during that range of years. You could write a billion pages about it!

Some things that come to mind are William Shakespeare on the early end (1600) and Charles Darwin on the later end (1859 with the Origin of Species).

Other random topics include Cholera epidemics (there's been like 7 in the last 200 years), history of vaccinations, Isaac Netwon, the Industrial Revolution and how it changed from the majority of workers were farmers (like 90%) to 2% farmers now.

I love history. You could get a solid eight pages out of the first Europeans to settle in America and the reasons they came here, or any part of the Civil War would make a good topics. There are tons of good topics during that time period in American or European history, both forming the world as it is today. Are there any particular events or subjects that really catches your attention?

The cotton gin made slavery pay - before that slavery was a barely break even business on the cotton plantations in the south.
That was one of the reasons only South Carolina balked at the slavery mention in the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

I love love the Civil War, but I'm not sure what I'd be able to get 8 pages from. I don't think he'd let me do just an overview of the entire thing though.

You could do something comparing the economies of the north and south on the strategic and tactical battles fought. Including the naval blockage which slowly strangled the south.

Also, the English Civil War and its effect on the (future) American colonies would be a unique angle.

So much in that time frame. I might lean to the likes of Mozart, Vivaldi, Bach, Stradivari, Dvorak, & Beethoven, just to name a prominent few :)

I wrote a 25er on comparisons between Andersonville and Elmira prisons.

I'm a history major in my senior year and prepping to go to grad school. Colonial American history is my specialty. If you'd like I can give you some ideas when I have more time.

Hell how about the Tennis Court Oath in 1789, or the reign of Robespierre during the Terror in the French Revolution.

Slavery is an easy topic for that time period. And there is more than ample resources to study on almost anything. The problem with that era is that a lot of that stuff is in the library... LOL.

JK, just think about how slavery is labor--capitalism, consumerism, settlers, etc.... throw in things that are forbidden to be talked about on this board, put it in that time period and you got yourself a paper.

one topic that i always thought was kind of interesting is how the USA decided to utilize national government vs. state government...there are a lot of supreme court cases that kind of solidified the national government. you could also talk about the articles of confederation and the need for the drafting of the constitution.

I love history and I specifically am very into American history. If you are going to focus on an aspect of the Civil War, the real elements leading up to the Civil war would be a great topic to focus on. It wasn't just slavery.

Also, if America's participation in slavery is a focus, specifically focusing on who was responsible for bringing the practice to America.
