Why isn't his name ever on a "short-list" for one of these HC jobs at a major U? I know he just got extended, but he never seems to even be mentioned as a candidate.

Am I missing something?

He doesn't want to leave he already had 2 years left plus he just got extended. He's got no reason to leave.

It's rumored that if Les Miles leaves for Mich., Patterson, Pelini and at the top of LSU's list as replacements.

Sometime you find a job you love and stay. Joe Pa has been with Penn St for over 50 years some as an assistant coach then HC. College coaches who bring success get treated like Gods by the colleges why would you want to leave it

With rumors flowing, TCU extends Patterson’s deal yet again

Name a job at a major BcS school that’s come open in the past two months, and you can bet Gary Patterson‘s name has been spit out by the rumor mill as a potential candidate.

The latest speculation swirling around the TCU head coach is that he could be a front-runner for the Michigan opening. Or, to be accurate as of tonight, was a front-runner.

No doubt in response to the latest round of rumors, TCU announced Friday night that they have reached an agreement on a two-year contract extension for the coach. Patterson is now technically tied to the school through the 2018 season.

As a private institution, TCU does not release salary figures, so it’s unclear how big of a bump in pay — and you know there was one — Patterson received this time around. In December of 2009, after Patterson’s name was seriously linked to the Notre Dame job, he was rewarded with a two-year contract extension as well.

“Gary Patterson is simply the best football coach in America,” athletic director Chris Del Conte said. “He has done a remarkable job in energizing a campus and community around his program and TCU as a whole.

“To see a sea of purple in the stands at the Rose Bowl is a testament to what Gary and his staff have accomplished. We couldn’t be more proud to have him as our coach and leader. He is a perfect fit for TCU.”

In 10 seasons as TCU’s head coach, Patterson has led the Horned Frogs to at least 10 wins seven times, including six seasons of at least 11 wins. Patterson’s .778 winning percentage is second nationally among active coaches with a minimum of five years experience.

Additionally, TCU is 16-3 in its last 19 games against teams from leagues with automatic BCS bids. Included in that total, of course, is the school’s win over Wisconsin in this year’s Rose Bowl.

“I would like to thank Chancellor Boschini, our Board of Trustees and Chris Del Conte for the support they provide in allowing us to have a football program that makes TCU and Fort Worth proud,” Patterson said. “Our administration’s commitment to the goals we have in our program have enabled us to be successful and to keep pushing forward.”

I read an article a few months ago that mentioned Patterson and Jerry having some type of problem and that Patterson didn`t care for Jerry. Anybody have an ideal what the problem is ?

Patterson would in no way have ever been a candidate for the Dallas job, so I don't know what the context would be. Maybe it was something over use of the stadium - I think TCU played a game in the Cowboys stadium this year.

I heard him on Galloway's show after the Rose Bowl and he said at that time he was very happy at TCU and while he would never say never to another stint somewhere else that he was extremely happy there and had no plans to leave.

He made a point of saying they always believed in him and his ability and loyalty was important to him. He's done a superb job with that program.

Every coach says pretty much the same thing the first time his name gets thrown around by the media. I don't know if Patterson would consider leaving or not, but this is standard rhetoric.

Rhetoric which he's pretty much never deviated from. imo it's pretty easy to tell when somebody is full of it and Patterson is definitely happy to stay at TCU. Although I feel like he would consider leaving if he won a national championship...I just get the feeling like he wants to win it to rub it in all the naysayers noses.

Almost none of them deviate from it before the offers start rolling in. That's not unique to Patterson. And that doesn't mean they are full of it when they say it. I think many, if not most mean it, but all they are really saying is they like where they are and aren't looking, but they almost never say they wont look at other jobs if others come to them. And that's esxactly what Patterson said. Even if they are happy where they are, they all know that once offers are put in front of them there is a chance they might find one to be attractive.

Actually I didn't find his comments rhetorical at all. He said he would never say never to any job offer. He said that TCU has always taken great care of him and been loyal to him and that's important to him. He said he loves it there and he loves coaching the kids there.

I don't remember if he said he had gotten other offers or not but I think it would be naive to think he hasn't.

I hope Miles goes to Michigan and Pelini goes to LSU. Then those stupid Cornhuskers can go back to being the mediocre team they have been over the last decade plus. The Big Ten will then curb stomp them and treat them as if they are Indiana, Northwestern, or Minnesota.

It also helps that TCU will being going to the Big East a BCS conference in 2012

I don't remember him talking about that but yea you're right. It was all a big high from the Rose Bowl victory and that's what I remember them talking about.
