I'm thinking of buying myself one for Christmas so in the dead of night I have something to do besides bother people on the internet. :)

I have had a couple over the years (my first one got stolen when my car was broken into). It's a great little system and there are some pretty cool things you can do with it if you have a PS3. The games are kind of hit or miss (check Metacritic for an overview) but honestly there are only a few I have, out of 50 or so, that I played for more than a couple of hours (Madden, FIFA, LEGO StarWars come to mind). I've got a shorter attention span though, so your mileage may very.

Speaking of short attention spans, my PSP has pretty much gathered dust since I started using the iPod Touch. The games aren't quite as deep as you'll find on the PSP, but they're so much cheaper and the Touch can do so much more, that I doubt the PSP will get much use from here on out unless I give it to my son.

If you're really set on the PSP though, you can't go wrong. Aside from a handful of really good games, it also does WiFi, can do media streaming, NetFlix streaming, all kinds of other things so it's not just limited to games.
