The crazy thing is that people will be laughing at my "puny" 1TB HD in about 20 years, if not sooner.

All our storage will be in a Google database somewhere in the arctic.

It's already puny....$75 bucks for an interal 1TB....one of the cheapest parts of a computer now. Now, new CPUs are still expensive though :(

I discovered that last week when I bought a whole new system. Going from i3 to i5 would have added an extra $150 to the balance, so I stayed put.

I wish I would have saved the catalog Dad showed me last week when he cleaned out one of his offices. It had burnable CD's for $300 a pop I want to say, right next to the good old 5" floppies. The burning station was pricey. I can't remember if it was under $10K or just beyond.

Well, of course they will-- you've got it crammed full of funny (weird) pictures...

Bang for the buck AMD whips Intel's tail and it isn't even close. I still prefer Intel if price is no object.

As for disks, they will get smaller first in the form of SSD being standard. So, 1-2 TB will be good for some time.

Which chip did you have before? How do you like the i3? Can you tell the diff?

I've been looking around a bit..

Intel Pentium 4 (old Dell Dimension 8400). The new machine has 6GB of RAM compared to Dell's 2 gigs, so yeah, I've noticed the difference. I also replaced the new computer's power supply and added a nice video card. Got it all done for roughly $900 (full HD monitor to boot), so I'm happy.

At somewhere around $200, Intel's CPUs pull away from the AMD ones. At the top end Intel rules, at the bottom end AMD is much more cost effective.

I expect to see a standard setup of a smaller SSD and a larger data mechanical hard disk, for awhile at least.

Oh, and I had a friend who got one of those 10 Meg hard disks for his Atari. But it only cost him $2000. I used to pick them up for a dollar at flea markets and give them to him for use as doorstops or something, just for the chagrin.

I'm guessing you mean $250 as that's because all AMD chips top out about that price. At that price, Intel gets whipped on *almost* every single benchmark by AMD. The Phenom II X6 is actually a nice CPU.

They are making hybrid drives. (spindles and SSD storage on the same drive) Granted most of them were piss poor implementations, but it appears they are starting to figure it out.
