I got a new desktop with Windows 8.1. Installed McAfee. Everything ran fine. Once I upgraded to Windows 10, McAfee is constantly indicating that new updates are available. This happens throughout the day. I click on the updates, it runs, but says no new updates available. Is this normal?

Very annoying. didn't do this with 8.1.

If your McAfee is just for antivirus...just uninstall it from the system and go with the free Windows Defender that already comes with your OS. After that find a free (or pay if you want) anti spy ware anti mal-ware program like spy bot or malwarebytes

Or ditch Windows completely :)

I used to work for McAfee back in the 90s. As soon as they merged with Network General, out the window their product went. It went from good to complete trash.

Are any of those anti-viral programs not a scam and do any of them not put viruses on your computer?

Yeah, I may go the free route

i'd pony up for at least a good one.

how much money have you put into the software on your computer?
how much time do you have in your personal files?
do you back up on a regular basis to where if you had to start over, it wouldn't be a big deal?
how much is your credit worth to you?
do you get more email than you would like?

considering the nominal cost of something like malware bytes and how much it sucks to have to flatten a box and start over, i'm amazed at how many people will pay top $$$ for the system, the software, and the like and when it comes to av/malware protection and these days, ransonware which *will* nuke all your personal files unless you "pay the man" - free is fine to protect the time and $$$ put into it.

I use the free Microsoft Security Essentials for real-time Anti-Virus. It's actually isn't too bad and is easily the least obtrusive Anti-Virus software I know on the market. Then I just keep the free version of MalwareBytes on standby.
