Are the Las Vegas Raiders our future?

As I think about what Jerry said in his radio call today that I learned about on ESPN, it has gotten me wondering something. Are the Las Vegas Raiders our future? What does that mean? Al Davis, the former Raiders owner, was Jerry's mentor. Look at the disaster he left for his son, who is notorious for being a moron. Let me dive more deeply into this.

Jerry is 82. The average life expectancy for a male in the US is (https://www.statnews.com/2023/11/13/life-expectancy-men-women/) 73. Jerry is 9 years older than the average life expectancy in the US. So, he's probably aware of the fact that he hasn't got enough time. I made a thread yesterday about how I'm not sure this is even fixable, and another about how we could possibly be competitive again in 4 years IF everything that I could think of goes EXACTLY to plan. The problem is, by the time we get into October of 2028, assuming Jerry is even alive still, he would be 86.

I wonder question if Jerry is aware that the grim reaper is drawing closer to him. He's behaving recently like a desperate man who knows his hour glass is almost empty. He is acting like he's cornered. He attacked a person on radio for asking a question that we all wanted to know. He attacked someone for doing their job. He's been getting increasingly hostile of late. He did nothing in the offseason, and he's acting surprised that things didn't go to plan.

Where my mind is going, therefore, is the possibility that he knows his time is drawing closer. He's too old to do a full rebuild because he probably won't be alive by the time the necessary rebuild comes to fruition. He's not got the pieces to go all in. So, I was asking before if he was sabotaging the team, and I can't help but wonder if he's putting this team in a state to where Stephen is going to be hard-pressed to course correct. Bear in mind, his son Stephen (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Jones_(American_football)) is 60 years old himself. What's the likelihood that, in 10-15 years with the way Jerry has this team situated at this time that Stephen can turn this team into a contender without a full rebuild?

So, I come full circle with this thread. Al Davis, before he died, put the Raiders in a spot to where it was next to impossible for Mark Davis to get out of. I wonder if our future as the Dallas Cowboys is trending similarly to where the Raiders are. As I look at the Raiders at that time in 2010 and us now, I don't like our future one bit.

No Jerry is just a good enough GM to get you between 9-12 wins every year

The raiders at their worst are a 2-15 kinda team

Not this year. And the way I hear Jerry's comments at the moment, I get the sense of this guy creeping up on him *My mane starts to perk up in concern and my ears flatten*

When I read the title I thought the thread might be about Jerry moving the team to Vegas as a 2nd franchise there. LOL...

The whole Al Davis comparison - this isn't new. Many of us have felt for years that Jerry and Al were darn near twins. It was becoming far more apparent as time went by, but now it can't be denied what Jerry has become. At least Al could be considered more of a football person. He was a coach at different levels from 1950 to 1965 and a scout for Baltimore back in 1954.

Mark Davis at least never was given Director of player personnel role when his daddy was alive.
I don't follow the Raiders heavily, but outside of the Mack/Cooper agent drama he seems to let his GM be the GM.

I have a feeling once Jerry goes Stephen, Jerry Jr or another son will take over the GM roles. My bet it's Stephen.

My hope is they start a massive civil war for control/money and they have to sell.

Oh, I'd imagine it'll be Stephen, but I'm hoping that he finds himself in a spot where he either hires a GM and focuses on making money or decides to sell the team. AT&T and ExxonMobil are headquartered in the Metroplex. They got boatloads of money.

IMO just from reading excerpts from Stephen, I can see him believing he can be the GM. Probably believes cause he saved the team from Manziel he can be the GM and COO/CEO/Owner/whatever other job title he can give himself.

the older he gets, the more senile he becomes. the more desparate he becomes and the crazier the moves he makes. this is going to get a lot worse.

Honestly, I hope not, but I can see that. I don't know. That's the mystery of what will happen next.

Oh, I am aware, and, like I was saying earlier, I think he's been hearing this whistle more clearly lately

He's been behaving like he's been hearing it lately. The way he's been getting more aggressive lately in his demeanor. The comments he made on the radio today. I get a sense that he'd hearing the Death Whistle.

The Raiders have more hope than we do. As bad as they have been they have at least played in a SB in the 21st century. It's conceivable that the stars could align for them again. Even when the stars do align for the Cowboys their QBs crap the bed first game of the playoffs, and the team looks like it didn't even want to be there.
