Are We All In This Year?

If we are indeed all in judging by the trades for Cooks and Gilmore, the biggest impact our first draft pack could have is to pick an offensive lineman to replace Connor Mcgovern and solidify our offensive line that has a gaping hole right now. But it seems that the two top guards in this draft are reaches at 26. Still, I am OK with taking either one of those guards at 26 because of the need. However, if Bijan or Nolan Smith fall, they are the pick and you take a Tippmann or similar player in the second round. If neither of those two players are there, a trade down to a high second while picking up a third or a fourth is a possibility also. Avila should still be there at that point. Your thoughts?

I think you gotta take a premium position that costs a lot of money with your first round picks.

Only way I’m taking a guard is if they can also play tackle.

Having a quality corner, pass rusher, or offensive tackle, or WR for 5 years on the cheap helps the cap so much.

The picks of Frederick and Martin turned out to be great picks even though neither was a premium position. I am OK picking a tackle but he must be able to play guard this year. Or put him at LT and move Tyler inside

The versatility of Avila is why I think Dallas prefers him. He’s shown he can play both guard spots and center at All Big 12/All American levels and he took 100 snaps at tackle last year as well. Dallas loves that kind of versatility. It served them well with Tyler.

LOL. We are all in because we traded away two 5ths and a future 6th round pick.

Yeah but I can’t rely on any player being Frederick or Martin.

Every player is their own individual self and just because Player A did something doesn’t mean Player B will.

If I cheered for a team that drafted a bust at guard and center it would be foolish to say that we can’t draft a player because of the busts we drafted.

Same goes for players that aren’t busts.

A lot of Cowboys fans thought Demarcus Ware would be a bust because he played at a small school and reminded them of Shante Carver or whatever his name was.

This type of stuff is irrelevant when evaluating individual players.

It’s like the Cowboys fan that watches how awesome Tony Pollard is but says they remember Troy Hambrick and Joseph Randle so that’s why we should continue to trot out a struggling Zeke.

Pay no attention to that nonsense. He can't count on them being Frederick or Martin but has no issue counting on one of these irrelevant cornerbacks in the draft.

I assure you Zack Martin was, is and always will be more impactful to the team than Trevon Diggs.

I think they will have about 18 players with 1st round grades.
- If one of those players drop to #26, then I think they'll draft that player regardless of position (QB is the exception).

If one of those players does not drop to them, then they'll have to choose from their players with a 2nd round grade.
- Avila is likely near the top of their players with a 2nd round grade.
- He can player OC which pushes his value up a little bit.

I think they'll have a 1st round grade on RT Darnell Wright.
- In my opinion, Wright might be the best option at OG of any player in this draft.
- I see him a solid NFL RT but a potential All-Pro OG.

They are trades that we never make. Bringing in veterans who are one or two year rentals is not usually on our radar

You're neglecting to mentioned our FA signings of Edoga and Jones II. Probably because you just don't want to admit how all in that makes us.

Almost forgot about Trent Seig, possibly our most important FA signing. Will turn both our punter and kicker (no matter who that is) into Pro Bowlers.

Like trading a sixth-round pick in 2019 for Robert Quinn or a sixth-round pick in 2018 for Tavon Austin?

I have recently seen that Quinnen Williams (All-Pro DT for the Jets from Univ. of Alabama) won't be reporting to camps due to his desire to get a new deal. Dallas definitely be going "all in" if they call the Jets during the draft and offer #26 and another pick (be it a mid round 2023 pick or a 2024 3rd rounder) in order to get a stud DT finally.

Do I see it happening? No way. But, I would not be upset if they made this move. First, the Jets want to keep him. Second, Dallas would never want to give up the draft capital, plus give him a new deal on par with what Payne received in Washington. Especially with Lamb, Diggs, Parsons and Prescott likely getting extensions soon.

But, I think the Jets would think about it. Especially since they are going to be giving up picks for Aaron Rodgers this year. Likely a 2023 2nd rounder and maybe a 2024 first rounder (allegedly that is what the Packers want for Rodgers. The Packers allegedly may offer a 2025 pick to the Jets should Rodgers retire after 2023). Getting a 2023 first rounder plus another pick (in 2023 or 2024) for Williams may be enticing.

This would definitely define going "all in".

The adult response to your question @sjmike is I see the logic in your idea but I would do _____ OR I’m not sure drafting Cooks & Gilmore necessarily indicates all in. However, it wouldn’t be a proper Cowboy’s message board if we got through the first page without snarky comments and piling on and it ends up being a #@$% measuring contest every time. I love a good pizzzzing contest as much as the next guy, just not every single post…it gets old and blows up the thread.

I guess that "All In" is the debate in this scenario. My whole point was that acquiring those two veterans gives us only one major hole, left guard, and if we use our first pick to help us the most in this upcoming season, drafting an offensive lineman who could fill that position would give us the most bang for our buck for 2023.

As we arent players in elite Free Agency we cant afford not to take the player we see as BPA. We DO NOT take Avila at 26, just because he's a G, similarly we dont take a WR or Edge, we have stay true to our Board. If we are desperate for a LG, (and we are ALL-IN, which is a consideration) we look at Risner or even a trade.
