ive been thinking about transferring there and im wondering if there are any alums on the board and if you can tell me about the university. id appreciate any info you have.

oh and im thinking about going for anthropology with a concentration on archaeology but im also going to start a thread to get opinions of other history related degrees that have a good job market so if you have knowledge on that please post in that thread too.

I take a few classes there right now and will be going full time next fall.

2 of my roommates graduated from there (1 in the masters program) and the other is currently attending.

Let me know what you want to know.

was mainly interested in (A)what the standard size of classes are, (b)how big is the campus and whats it like. Is it set in a very large city or is it on the outside of the city.(c) how well do the counselors/advisors help you when trying to decide what classes and things to take of that nature. i know where im going now the advisors are basically impossible to reach and even then they are useless. thanks a lot

Well, the main thing here is that you have to realize that ASU is the largest University in the nation as of Fall 2009 with over 55,000 undergrad students. They have 4 campuses, Tempe, Polytechnic (in mesa), Downtown (in phoenix), and West (in phoenix). The Tempe one is the main one, which is where the vast majority attend. The campus is pretty spread out, parking is crap unless you want to pay $500+ for a parking permit. The main campus, which I'm assuming you'll mostly be attending is set in Tempe, its a large city but all of the cities around here are ridiculously easy to navigate. Everything is N-S-E-W, all in straight lines. The campus is extremely nice, good area, bunch of stuff to do and eat around there, the SRC is a great activities center as well.

The average class size at ASU depends on the class. If it is not a common lecture class (Chem, Psych, etc) it is about 40-50 per class. If it is a common lecture class it is at least 200 students. Obviously, with class sizes that large you won't get too much one on one time with the Professor.

I haven't had to go to the advisors there at all, but as much as I have heard from other people, they are pretty good. Again, its sometimes takes a long wait (if no appointment) to reach them because ASU has such a large student base.

I appreciate the info, i currently live in ohio in a very small town and desperately want to get out and see something new and i figure the best way to do that would be to get a degree from a prestigious college while im at it. I was considering going to ohio university in athens ohio (which is only 20 mins from me) but that school is known pretty much as a party school.

im going to a joke of a community college as of right now and its a terrible waste of money and time.

Since im coming from so far away i most likely will not have my car with me, unless i decide to drive it clear there which i dont think it will even make the trip lol. How hard do you think it would be to attend classes on the tempe campus without a vehicle? also can you give me any info on how the living situation works there? they have dorms and stuff im sure but whats the on campus housing like, anything other than dorms and how does the off campus housing work?

EDIT: and yes i realize i could just talk to someone from there about all this but its also nice to hear a students opinion on everything so thank you again.

Woot. Alum here. Girls = Hot. Greek system = strong. Summers unbearable. Anthropology is strong there. You could do much worse. AZ is great, esp compared with OH.
